Do You Go Ice Skating Or Watch It On TV?

I found out early that I was two feet going in four different directions on ice

So now occasionally watch it on tv and marvel at the artistry of skating. Will there ever be another Katarina Witt skating so beautifully to Carmen?

Would like to try a tobaggan though.

Even when I was strong enough to stay upright on skates, I was told I "skated like I was driving without a license." =-P

I played hockey and started skating at about 10 years old.

But my grandson came to visit and we decided to go ice skating on an outdoor rink.

I put my skates on and thought I could just take off after being off skates for a long time.
It wasn't pretty. I had to hang on to the boards just to stay upright. I quit for fear of breaking something.
However, here's my grandson playing hockey with the big boys, passing the puck and skating like the wind. It was so nice to see.

I was a better rollerskater than I was an iceskater. I just love watching Olympic-quality ice-skating on TV, especially pairs and icedancing.

I was watching a competition on TV a couple of weeks ago that I can only describe as Alpine/Downhill skiing on ice skates. I hope it becomes an Olympic sport.

I've never attemptedt it, but I love to watch figure skating on TV.

Oh .....I loved ice skating as a kid , but sadly stopped , when I became a teenager, too many other things to do......like dancing , boys etc .....

I think torvill and Dean, are brilliant .....

I might start watching skating on ice on tv ,with the celebrities, it can be quite funny x

When my ,husband came skating with me , a good few years back, I had to laugh at him, as he skated around on his ankles........

Oh yes, we ice skate on frozen lakes and ponds in the winter, and dear husband plays hockey on open ice with others.

Also have been know to watch ice skating on television in the past.

As a kid, I loved to ice skate. I've seen Winter Olympic Games, and marveled at the way a skater glided all over the place. But, frankly, to me, all those world class skaters looked like each other. When it came time to judge them, it was down to one guy's toe wasn't in the exact right place. That's way beyond my powers of observation, that kind of takes away from the sport.

I cannot skate, but I do watching these great artists and listening to the beautiful music they perform to.

As far as the "judging", I could skip that.

Love watching ice skating on television and have been a big fan for many years. Ice dancing is my fave.

I watch it sometimes, especially during the Olympics. But I have trouble watching "Pairs." I don't like to watch people doing something where they can get seriously hurt. And Pairs skating has become crazier & crazier.

Yes I still ice skate. There are some pictures on this forum of me skating with my husband and some friends on 2 and 3 kilometre ice paths throughout the forest. It’s really fun. I never fall. ..... . I wipe out so many times. Almost took my front teeth out at one point.

Watching skating on television is also enjoyable to me. Husband would rather watch paint dry.

Update: the "downhill skating" is called Ice Cross. If you see it on the TV schedule, I recommend watching it.

You know ice skaters have a trick, that when they spin, they don't get dizzy.

I forgot what that trick was. It would come in handy.

I‘ll have to ask my GDs what the trick is. No skating for me.

Years ago some exchange students from Japan thought it would be easy, just like they saw when watching the Olympics. A rude awakening. Good thing they were young.

I only watch it. I would break my neck trying to actually do it. I used to put on classical music and lay on the couch...close my eyes and daydream about being a figure skater.

i use to love to ice skate----i wouldnt do it now --i cant even ride a bike now except for a stationary bike
