Do You Get Jealous Of Anything?

Envy is when you want the things that other people have [job, money , gorgeous wife/husband etc]
Jealousy is when other people try and take [or you think they are trying to take] someones affections away from you. That is the essential difference. You are 'guarding' whatever treasure you have.

I don't think I put that very well, but envy means you don't have something, and jealousy that you do have something, but think it's under threat.

Very true, SB. BUT, would still like to have more money (of course), a new boat and a Sebring Touring Convertible! And, my wife keeps reminding me.......a nice single-level house by a lake w/a dock for a boat.

Material goodies don't mean very much to me, so I don't get jealous of people driving fancy cars, or wearing expensive clothes and jewelry. I know that those things don't bring real happiness and contentment, and many times those folks who are putting on a show for others, are miserable in their own existence. I have what I need to live comfortably, a husband who loves me, and my health...some may even be jealous of me. :)

Ok, I see your point/word. The word "envious" sounds much better. Thanks.

Sorry, I wanted to address this to ClassicRockr

Dude, I don't believe that you are jealous, maybe more like envious. From what I have read of your posts and all that you and your wife have done and still do, I think that there are a lot of people that may be envious of you also. To me, jealous is a nasty word meaning that you resent what other people have or could afford to have. I take your post as somebody who just wishes that they had or could afford to have the things that you see. Big difference.

Maybe you don't see it from our side, but you are lucky to have and done the things that you have. A lot of others aren't so fortunate. I am not chastising you for your post, just pointing out how good you do have it. Sometimes we need to be told how lucky we are because we can't see the trees for the forest. You are doing well, believe me.

There is a saying, "Money is the root of all evil" or the extreme version/Bible verse that says "The love of money is the root of all evil".
Now, my feeling is this, "I'd like to have some of that evil sometimes!". I think a lot of money can make a person evil only with what they do with it.

I know what it's like to live WITHOUT, but would much rather live WITH (if possible)!

I do think about the poor and homeless people, but I also remember when I was poor/homeless and how I got that way and how I got out of it.

Now, on with the "envy" Thread.

I know that I may be offending some people by quoting the Bible, so for those of you that do not believe, please skip this post.

I like the verse of Mark 10:25 that reads:

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." (New International version)

Just to go a step farther, not preaching here, but I heard Donald Trump on Larry King Live one evening speaking about this verse. Actually, he brought it up and was talking about how this verse, when he heard it for the first time some 5 or 6 years prior, brought him back to his church. Now, I can't guarantee that he was telling the truth or just trying to convince the TV audience that he was a converted Christian or what his reason was for saying what he did. Larry was talking to Donald about how he (Donald) got his start in real estate and how many times he went broke, only to bring himself back up to being a muti-millionaire a couple of times after bankruptcies and so on, but I was just confused by it all.

Look up what "The eye of a needle was in Biblical times? It wasn't what we think of today! The Bible does not say Money is the root of all evil. It says "The Love of Money". Making money your idol. Loving Money more than God. Anything you put above God is an idol. Not only money. And alot of us Christians are guilty, so am not preaching to any one particular. Just stating facts as I beleive them. To me sometimes it the
net.
Yes I get envious on some days CR. I have never had a lot of money and I see someone who gets everything they want handed to them when we have worked hard. I wonder why? But then I know someday I
will live in a mansion so it is all revelant. I don't wish they didn't have it but that we both did! I dislike worse someone who uses his money to buy power or people.

Just Plain Me is right, it's the love of money, [nothing wrong with having a bit of money in the bank.] I believe the eye of the needle was a stone gateway, it was narrow, and a loaded camel couldn't get through. It means when you are 'loaded' you tend to think about your money a lot and not focus on any spiritual need.
As to envy, no I don't envy anyone anything. Thankfully I have enough to pay all the billls and some over to enjoy life.

Your right oakapple! The point being "With God all things are possible!" What doesn't seem possible to us is of no conseequence to Him!
