Homemade tomato sauce

I have a small urban garden and I like to freeze the tomatoes as they ripen which takes up a lot of freezer space, so I only store enough tomatoes for one or two batches of this stuff.

The onions are from my garden, tomatoes too, and the garlic is local. I will add dried spices I grew in the garden as well.

It smells incredible in my kitchen right now!57CA99D0-E615-4B49-A8C6-66FDE36B545D.jpeg

My favorite tomato sandwich are my Asiago Tomato Melts!

A few slices of bread (your choice), pizza sauce, layer with a slice of tomato, add a few slices of Asiago cheese over, sprinkle with flaked oregano and black pepper (to taste), pop in oven on broil, so deliciously good!

Store bought tomatoes don't even taste like tomatoes, imo. They're so bland. I get mine at one of the farmers markets here. Worth the trip. You know how you can actually sort of taste the soil in farm and home-grown tomatoes? I like that taste.
I agree, I liken them to cardboard.

Growing up as a kid, my parents always had a large garden, and when it was the season for fresh cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden, the entire kitchen used to carry the mouth-watering delight of freshly sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, and the taste was out of sight.

Kids today don't even know. That's probably why they don't eat their vegetables, they all taste the same, really...bleh...like nothin'.

I totally agree.

Few people I know of have gardens.

That tells me everything I need to know about processed and packaged foods nowadays.

Yes! On white bread! and salt and pepper.
Has to be really good white bread, Hellman's mayo, lot of pepper and has to be home grown tomatoes! Campari tomatoes come close to home grown in a pinch. I don't bother to buy tomatoes except for the Campari ones in the store.
