Which American Accent Do You Have?

Although I am from the NY/NJ area, I do not have an accent. I was educated by Dominican nuns and you better believe, accents were left in the wind at a young age. My mother's family from Philadelphia have very distinct accents.

I object to this thread on the grounds that it's racially prejudiced! (only joking, don't get your knickers in a twist).
When I was surfing around various forums for a place of like minded people, I came across one such forum where a spat-fest was the national sport. One "lady" was spitting blood & feathers for being referred to as a lady. Another objected, in a vitriolic way, to being called, a woman. And the tone of the language. Your objection was jocular, but someone there might have said: "What gives you the right........"
I read through a couple of threads and moved on. What is it about the internet that everyone has got a whinge to air in public?

It does make you wonder what these people are like in the flesh. I suspect that the internet gives people a chance to show their true nature, which they keep under control normally. It's one thing to fall out with a stranger on the internet, quite another to offend someone you have to live with.

I guess because people are bursting with things to say, things that maybe cannot be said to people in their world, or maybe there are no people in their world. People need to be recognized, to be important, even if it is just a reflection of a true point of view.

Which American accent do you have?
Northern

You have a Northern accent. That could either be the CHICAGO/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for.
Northern New England. However, where I live i have been asked if i was from New York. They say I have a accent... They never guess i may have the Boston New York i feel they have an accent heavy on the England side. My ex would say borttle as I say bottle or Sporty meaning Spotty the dog not sport as in football. He was born and raised here. Not me. Mew England yet combo New York Boston only i never lived in either state.

I grew up in Ohio, lived out West and now in Texas ... so it pegs me correctly. 😀

Which American accent do you have?

Neutral

You`re not Northern, Southern, or Western, you`re just plain -American-. Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don`t really have a local identity. You might be from the region in that map, which is defined by this kind of accent, but you could easily not be. Or maybe you just moved around a lot growing up.

Which American accent do you have?
Northeastern

This could either mean an r-less NYC or Providence accent or one from Jersey which doesn't sound the same. Just because you got this result doesn't mean you don`t pronounce R's.(People in Jersey don`t call their state "Joisey" in real life)
