Brutal Mugging In NYC in Which Victim Was Beaten & Stripped ALL clothing

I was just going to mention vigilantes. I'm surprised that the relatives of the victims don't go after the attackers themselves instead of relying on the police to deal with them.
What is needed is street patrols on foot. I'm sure decent people would be prepared to pay for the peace of mind it would give.
I'm equally surprised, Rosemarie.

It's increasingly necessary, especially in most of the cities, to remember one thing...."when danger is just seconds away, the police are just minutes away". Therefore, a person needs to be Very careful where and when they go somewhere....especially as a pedestrian. The criminals know when and where there is a small chance of close by police presence, and they plan their attacks accordingly.

In recent months the police have come under attack, especially where minorities are involved, so they are reluctant to get involved or respond quickly. This tends to embolden the criminals, and makes it even more dangerous for the local people.

It's really a shame they didn't victimize Bernard Goetz. He knows how to handle such scum:

Bernhard Goetz is best known for his moniker "the Subway Vigilante." Following an assault in 1981, Goetz was infuriated by the lack of prosecution of the three assailants. He decided to start carrying a gun for protection. In 1984, four teenagers approached Goetz again, but this time Goetz shot all four, permanently paralyzing one of them, Darrell Cabey. The case made him a folk hero to some New Yorkers who believed his actions were justified. In the criminal trial, Goetz was acquitted of attempted murder, but he was found guilty of illegal firearms possession. Later, the jury in a civil trial awarded Cabey millions in damages. Goetz then declared bankruptcy.

They came up with several excuses for the Genovese bystanders saying it wasn't as originally portrayed.

https://www.npr.org/2016/06/02/4804...ks-back-at-those-accused-of-ignoring-a-murder

But today in the day and age of cell phones and/or video abilities one would think being a witness or calling for help should be easier. Alot of people are desensitized or scared along with those that don't want to be raked over the coals as a witness in court. Some also realize that there alot of drug feuled thugs out there so the criminals become more unpredictable.

But NYC thugs seem to have no honor including playing the knock out game the same week mugging victims were beaten, stripped, spat on and bitten.

Victim sucker punched, jaw is broken during the knockout game

Same week as all the other crap in NYC, something in the water there?

Today's justice system is pathetic, weak, and has zero bite.

Individuals caught knocking innocent people out, should be stripped naked, tied to a pole in a field, and the general public given thin rods to whip the guilty to unconsciousness. Beat their a** until they can't wear a pair of underpants, then toss them into a jail cell to heal, and once on their feet again, send them out to the stone yard to split and cut/shape stone from morning until night, 8 days a week, 16 hour days.

And any judge caught being soft on a criminal would get the same treatment.

We'd see change, and quick, and bring back capital punishment, an eye for an eye. I can't believe family members don't turn vigilante when their loves ones are murdered.

Generally speaking, NYC is one of the safest major cities on earth. That's right. The majority of the people are kind and good. Where do you live, and what's in YOUR water?
Major cities maybe, but come to little Podunk, USA and there is no comparison in terms of safety. The problem is the scum from major cities come to Podunk to hide out and bring their crap with them.

@Chet
I've lived on farms, ranches, in suburbia, in major cities on two continents. I found the rural to be the most dangerous, with adults who were close-minded to their kids who drove drunk, killed themselves in cars and shot their friends to death. Oh, and suicide as life was boring and restrictive. Anecdotal, of course.

eta--the kids used way more drugs, & more dangerous ones, than any I've seen in NYC or London, etc.

One other revealing fact of that case:
Three of the (less seriously injured) muggers committed more violent crimes as soon as they recovered from their wounds.
The only one who didn't commit more crimes was the one Mr. Goetz paralyzed for life--Darrell Cabey-- with the final shot that severed his spine. It's difficult to rob & beat people from a wheelchair.

You can't do that. These people committing these crimes are scarred for life because their mothers didn't hug them enough when they were growing up, so they never grew up. The poor dears were deprived.

It's sad that this is where our world is at, thanks to a thoroughly broken justice system that simply does not work anymore.

H2o in my water. And where I live there isn't a beatdown of the day or week. Every thing I mentioned/sited happened with in a one week period in NYC. Should I mention the stolen and stripped police car also in NYC last week.

There are issues all over the country but right now NYC is a hot spot in more ways than one.

But just think of the love they'd receive at the time of a good old-fashioned public flogging.

There are 8 & 1/2 Million people residing in the five boroughs. Anyway, let's not fight about it, ok? I've lived here for most of my life and never once did I have a crime problem. Never.

But you did remind me that so much of the show of sympathy, etc. for NYC after 9/11 was shock, and once that wore off, it was BS.

The pendulum of justice being blind is swinging far and wide with this thread. Actually there is no difference in the type of crimes committed in New York City from spitting on the sidewalk to serial rape of infants as opposed to the very same types of crimes committed anywhere else on Earth, like any other highly populated Urban area there is just more of it. It must also be cathartic to some when their true selves are revealed in emotional topics such as crime and the lack of what they consider to be their version of moral punishment. Facts aside GOD set us loose upon the Earth and gave humanity free will, also the power to form opinions however biased or based on the facts of the case. YMMV

On with the show:

That sounds like a good resolution in the case of the murderous thugs and homegrown terrorists that recently sacked the Capitol building , murdered one and injured more of the police officers on duty. Along with urinating and defecating in the building while looking for members of Congress who they intended to murder.

Some members who are quite out-spoken about "big city" thugs (as they are described) are deathly quiet on the matter in Washington. Quiet approval by some?

I couldn't believe my eyes and ears over the storming of the capital building.

I feel sorry for the people in the USofA, that's all I can say.

We have friends that visited New York some years ago, and they walked everywhere, never once felt in danger, never threatened, and I remember them mentioning how many police where (on average) on every street and street corner.
