In Melbourne's St Vincent's Hospital, down the hall from the cancer day unit, there's an unassuming room known simply as "The Retreat". This is where a select few volunteers are offered a unique opportunity: to confront their deepest fears under a heavy dose of a psychedelic.

Terminally ill patients spend three to four hours here under the influence of psilocybin, the psychedelic compound found in "magic mushrooms"…….https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02...e-cancer-trial-regulator-rejects-bid/13112074

A senior blogger who had terminal pancreatic cancer had a psilocybin retreat. She said that it really helped her get through her final few months.

It just makes sense Jules, we will all be terrified waiting for the end, I hope this is approved (or similar) around the world.

For years, I've felt that Dr. Kevorkian has the best solution for those who are terminally ill, with no hope for recovery. The Only ones who benefit from keeping a person alive, artificially, are the members of our Health Care Industry who reap billions of dollars by keeping a pulse and brainwave going.

For those interested in learning more about psychedelic drugs even if you're not at all interested in taking them there is a great book How To Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan. The author discusses the different types of psychedelic drugs, how they have been used throughout history, the types of experiences people have had and how they have been used in religion and/or medical applications. He also tries some if not most of them and relates what his experiences have been on them.

I've only finished about 1/3 to 1/2 of the book but I found it fascinating.

Well gosh, I could probably add a chapter to his book lol.

And, fmdog44, I'm with you. What do they consider is the proper amount?
People react differently to these type of drugs. I wouldn't have let my mother or father take them in their later years.

At least this kind of thing is allowed now. One of my friends late husband was in screaming pain from his terminal cancer. He was denied heavy pain killers because it might be habit forming. She said it was awful, back then.

My guess is it would be easier to cure the drug addiction than the "terminal" cancer. Now, if my understanding of the word "terminal" is correct why is there a concern about addiction to pain killers?

I have never taken psychedelic drugs...so they bring out one's fears?? I foolishly took speed in college and enjoyed the highs...but LSD was not available for me. Good thing...I might have tried it. When I read about flash backs I was grateful none was available.
The things we do when we are young:cool:

That's it exactly. It was brutally unkind. Thankfully that changed.
