Information On Disease And Vaccination Success

This was sent to me this morning by an American PenPal of mine and it does makes you think
Loath as I am to respond to memes, here goes:

HIV's ability to mutate has been a particular challenge for vaccine creators.
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of common cold viruses. While annoying, they're not life-threatening, so the need isn't pressing.
Cancers aren't caused by viruses (other than HPV, for which there is a vaccine).

A ton of money and international resources were thrown at Covid because of how quickly it was spreading and how many people were getting extraordinarily sick and/or dying. The groundwork had already been laid by research on vaccines for SARS, a quite similar virus, so researchers weren't starting from scratch.

Take the vaccine or don't, but this meme's arguments don't hold water.

The "Mutation" thing also applies to Covid.......according to what we're being told now. So that would be the same challenge for vaccine creators.
Coronavirus causes several illnesses - including the common cold.
Some experts have said cancers are caused by viruses. More of the "Unknown."

I'm not about to engage in straw man arguments comparing HIV, the common cold and cancer versus COVID. There are reams of data explaining why there aren't vaccines for those viruses/illnesses. Google them.

The meme is a set of false equivalencies.

Take the vaccine or don't - it's no skin off my nose either way.

This is just another reason for unnecessary division. If you want to take the vaccine, you should, and I wish you well. I'd be one those people who feel great, get vaxxed and die hours later. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm not wrong and neither are you.
