Explain this to me please. Why does anyone need such a huge place?

Well, it does house more than one family, and there are rooms for all sorts of things. Most of all it is full of offices for employees and was a bastion against invading forces some time ago. Now it is more of a tourist attraction.

I mean to offend no one, but I just don’t see the need for the Royal Palace to be this large. Do the taxpayers pay for its upkeep? Hollydolly, set me straight on this.

I am sure they really don't need it but am glad they're keeping the place up. Castles like that don't come along every day. It's a historical treasure.

yes we pay for it.... and it's only the weekend home of the Queen & PP.. no-one else lives there except for staff... It's where Harry & meghan got married..

Buckingham palace on the other hand is what they call the Queen's office...she lives there all week, almost 800 rooms.. again only her and PP.... the rest are members of staff.. ( we pay for that )

The Palace of Hollyrood house is the Queens' official residence in Scotland... ( we pay for that)

Sandringham house where the queen used to take her holidays.. and where Prince Philip now lives full time... and Balmoral castle, where the Royal family take their 2 month holiday every summer, are both privately owned by the Queen...

Thank you Holly. Everyone’s comments are answering my question. Kinda like we pay for all buildings and monuments in Washington, DC.

I am not sure and perhaps Holly could answer this. As a commonwealth country does Canada contribute?
In short, no. But Canada did generously grant to Britain something called: The Billion Dollar Gift and Mutual Aid. These were financial incentives instituted by the Canadian minister C. D. Howe during World War II. ... It was replaced in May 1943 with the "War Appropriation (United Nations Mutual Aid) Act, 1943" which provided for aid to the UK and the other Allies and lasted until the end of the war. A generous act of kindness indeed and one that gets overlooked because of the US Marshall plan.

You will find some interesting arguments about Canada's relationship with the UK on this website: https://store.monarchist.ca/en/myths
