Listening to a owner of a New York popular seafood market say frozen Tilapia from China are "poop eaters". Elaborating he said the literally live on a diet of most feces. Hard to believe so I searched for it this morning and I found the article below. What I pasted was only one of five reason to avoid this fish from China. Tilapia is popular here in Texas. No more for this guy.

A 2009 study conducted by the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture stated Chinese farm-raised fish are fed poultry and livestock feces. “It is common practice to let livestock and poultry roam freely in fields and to spread livestock and poultry waste on fields or use it as fish feed,” the report said. Researchers noted that “many of China’s farms and food processors are situated in heavily industrialized regions where water, air, and soil are contaminated by industrial effluents and vehicle exhaust.” So how much tilapia in the U.S. actually comes from China?
You would be shocked to know the answer. According to Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, over 95 percent of tilapia consumed in the U.S. came from overseas with a whopping 70% from China.

You'd be surprised at how many food animals are poop eaters.
I visited a ranch awhile back. A horse pooped & I watched a chicken run to the pile & eat some of it. I suppose a turkey will do the same.
And any carnivorous animal will eat the intestinal contents of whatever animal he's eating. In fact, I read that's what they'll go for first after they kill it. I had a pet Boa Constrictor who left nothing behind (including poop) when he swallowed a huge rat.
That's probably why under-cooked meat is dangerous to us; the high temperature kills the E-Coli bacteria present in all poop. Animals' digestive system is designed for it, so it doesn't harm them. Ours isn't.

I read that about Tilapia from china and saw a documentary showing the filthy pools of water the fish live in.
Farm raised fish here in the states isn't much better. The living conditions are better but the ingredients in the pellets they feed them is questionable.

It's rather amusing that some people are concerned about this when we consider it acceptable to eat liver - which is a filter for toxins. That's what gives it its characteristic smell. 😁

Don't touch the stuff from China or the Mekong Delta,

Don't eat Swai-
"Swai is a white-fleshed, moist fish that has a firm texture and neutral flavor. Therefore, it easily takes on the flavor of other ingredients (1Trusted Source).

According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), swai ranks as the sixth most popular fish in the nation (2).

It’s native to Asia’s Mekong River. However, swai available to consumers is most commonly produced on fish farms in Vietnam (1Trusted Source).

In fact, swai production in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam is one of the largest freshwater fish farming industries worldwide (3).

Previously, swai imported into the US was called Asian catfish. In 2003, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) passed a law that only fish in the Ictaluridae family, which includes American catfish but not swai, can be labeled or advertised as catfish (4).

Swai is from a separate but related family called Pangasiidae, and the scientific name for it is Pangasius hypophthalmus.

Other names for swai and similar species are panga, pangasius, sutchi, cream dory, striped catfish, Vietnamese catfish, tra, basa and — though it’s not a shark — iridescent shark and Siamese shark._"

I've also read elsewhere, (forgot where) that experts aren't even really sure what Swai is.

I don't eat anything from China. I try not to consume anything from China.
I read an article about tilapia being raised in 55 gal plastic drums in warehouses in Chicago.
A warehouse full of these drums with aerators raising tilapia eating, living, swimming in filth.
I have not had tilapia in many years.

About the Only fish we eat is what I, or the Son-in-law catches in our large local lakes/reservoirs. At least, that water is reasonably clean, and the fish are quite good....mostly Walleye, White Bass, and Catfish. I've watched some of these TV shows that show how the fish imported from Asia are grown, and I would Not want to eat something that has been raised in raw sewage.
