Dream Greenhouses, what would yours look like?

For forever and a day I have dreamed of owning a greenhouse, nothing elaborate, just a little greenhouse I could mess around in, however, as with many things in life, if I had the means I would love a true dream greenhouse.

My dream greenhouse would be large enough to have space for a little table and chairs, where I could sit and reflect, make a cup of tea, even close my eyes for a few.

Here are a handful that strike my fancy.

Very nice!

I've always wanted a greenhouse. The side of our house would be perfect for one. It is in full sun and could be entered from our basement,
I would have windows on top that could be vented when needed, nice sturdy wooden tables at the perfect height for potting and a bin that would contain an endless supply of fresh potting soil, shelves for all size pots, running water with a nice mist sprayer.
A cabinet for all my small hand tools.
A generator to keep my plants from freezing when we lose power.
A stool for potting if I get tired and a more comfortable chair and table for relaxing and admiring my beautiful lush plants.
The reality is when I could have really enjoyed having one we couldn't afford the cost of having one built. Now I'm a bit to old for such a major project.
I have to be happy with my bay window which gives me enough sun to start my seeds for my spring garden.
It's nice to dream though.

I was so hoping you'd drop-by to voice your take on this, Ruth. So happy you did!

I remember you and I chatting about greenhouses last fall, and with greenhouses being brought up in another thread, I thought it would make for an enjoyable topic considering the growing season is fast upon us.

I feel the same as you do, not being a spring-chicken anymore, I find myself still dreaming, but sadly reality always seems to have a way of taking hold and reminding me that 2/3's of my life is now gone... over with, and what's left isn't near enough to see even some of my most simplest of dreams to fruition.

Love all of your ideas related to your dream greenhouse, right down to the mist sprayer and cabinetry to store all of your gardening things!

Have always loved the formal look of a garden graced with a true glass greenhouse. So majestic and welcoming.

@Aunt Marg ,my dad managed a nursery with a large greenhouse his whole life. It isn't always fun and games. Infestation of insects, keeping the windows maintained and cleaned. A lot of work goes into growing all these beautiful plants.
These days I guess its a lot easier than back in the 50's but I always dreamed of having one.
My daughter has a beautiful sunny room in the front of her house. Sort of an alcove.
She calls it their reading room, I call it a plant room. If I had my way you would need a machete to get to the other side.

I would turn into a recluse if I had a greenhouse, Ruth, immersing myself in all things related to from morning until night.

Yes, the upkeep alone would be a fulltime chore, and nothing is worse than dealing with infestations of any kind.

As a young child there was a huge glass greenhouse beside a nursery made up of two, possibly three house-sized greenhouses (if I remember correctly), and I loved driving by at night, because all would be lit, making for such a spectacle.

One knows they're born with a true green-thumb when you're already attracted to and gravitate towards all things gardening at such a young age. :)

LOL, about your daughter!

I love all things gardening starting from the ground up. :ROFLMAO:
Got interested in composting years ago and it's really a lot of fun . . . makin' dirt.
Yes, we compost, too, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

When I was a young child I used to walk to school through alleyways... I'm sure my mom would have had a fit had she known, but I remember large homemade wooden compost bins were common.

I remember it, Keesha!

So crazy nice!

There's something so warm and inviting about a greenhouse.
Thank you. They are magical. It’s like a she cave. ♥️ I’ve got shelves inside with a plastic zippered cover for starting seedlings early for our garden. It’s great for having a place to put your early hanging plants from the nursery or creating your own. You can also grow some things longer than your zone would normally allow.

Would be such a welcome place to put in time on a wet, cold, and rainy day.

Watching the rain come down all around while mixing, digging, transplanting.

Reading all these posts on greenhouses have really sparked my interest once again. Maybe if I promise to move my hubbies recliner and TV set inside once its built he may go for the idea.
I'll make a special place right next to the compost bin. I don't think he would mind one bit.

It sure sparks my love for one, too, Ruth.

Tell your hubby that you'll serve him up some of your fresh homemade lemonade while he soaks up his required R&R time in his lounge. :)

I miss having one. Living in a condo I have to make do with a few plants on my patio. My husband built a greenhouse off the back side of our house. We would go to dump sites on the weekends looking for discarded windows to use. He framed it up and then inserted all different sizes of windows. We would go to big box stores and buy old windows they could not sell or wanted to get rid of. It was very nice with aheater inside and large lights to help warm it. We spent many happy hours in there making dirt, starting seedings, potting and repotting plants.
