Shortage of Furniture

Apparently so many people have renovated their homes or moved during Covid that the stores/manufacturers can’t keep up with demand.

What might have been a 6 - 8 week wait is now more like 6 months.

You can't tell it by the tv ads advertising furniture. They all say they are fully stocked and urging folks to buy. A friend of mine and his wife spent all last weekend looking at new living room furniture and there was no waiting for them. They picked out their furniture and will be delivered in a week. And it was not showroom furniture.
They had no problems getting their delivery arranged. Just about every ad you see here in Houston advertises delivery today, tomorrow or in 3 hours.

Terry, now you got me thinking of whether I ever see ads for furniture and I can only think of one.

Perhaps the shortage is regional.

Yep. When I moved here in October, I got all new furniture (I probably would have bought new even if I had not moved). Most of it came to my new place in a timely manner. One chair did not arrive until last month.

Most of my furniture is used or more politely antique so the only delay I experience is in finding something that I like at a price I'm willing to pay.

I did notice long delays in ordering recliners from La-Z-Boy. I assumed that was due to the huge number of combinations and an effort to keep inventory to a minimum.

Moving home was .... banned during the major part of lockdown here... they've only recently lifted the ban

In the UK is normal to wait up to 12 weeks for any large piece of furniture to be delivered, such as a sofa, or bed etc...

In Spain, conversely .. not only will they deliver within a day or 2, they will set the whole thing up for you too..they'll even hang pictures and curtains ...

I have already seen 4 ads for furniture this morning on tv and its only 10 am. All promised delivery from 3-4 hours to tonight or 3-4 days.

If you need a mattress call Mattress Mack here in Houston!! He is the Mattress King here. Don't think he can deliver there by tonight like he does here in Houston but I bet he can ship it to you pretty quick!

Yes thats why I said Mattress Mack would have to ship to you!! Mattress Mack is a very well known person here in Houston. He has several furniture stores and is well known for helping folks in all kinds of situations. He is also known for delivering furniture here in the Houston area in 3-4 hours or same day. A great guy !
