If A Shooter Comes: The Sweet, Thoughtful Answer From Her Students

That's cute.
After a previous school shooting, a school administrator had a suggestion: "Keep a bucket of rocks in the classroom to throw at a shooter."
LOL. Yeah......much cheaper than armed security.

When I grew up, the only horrible weapon I had to worry about was a nun's ruler. Compared to what kids have to truly worry about, those days for me were absolute bliss. God, I feel for those kids.
I feel for these children today too. I have two who are still in school and one getting ready to go to college. I can't imagine having to worry about getting my work done while looking over my shoulder..in case. Or maybe hearing a loud noise that scares me to death, even though it winds up not being shots. :( @hollydolly @win231...wow, that's a ridiculous solution!

I didn't realise you still had children at school, 😲 do they worry about school shootings..do you ?

I don’t think kids worry about a shooter, but most are taught what to do if it should happen. Being prepared can save a life if or didn’t the need arises.

This nonsense came from school administrators after people started to suggest armed security. People who don't want to face reality & maybe also hate guns came up with this genius solution about throwing rocks at a shooter. Some people on Facebook said it was a good idea. Well, OK.....I have an open mind, so why shouldn't Secret Service agents & police officers carry a few rocks & get rid of their guns?

As someone with firearms knowledge, I couldn't resist, so (after some choice adjectives about school administrators and some teachers), I explained:
A professional baseball pitcher can throw at 90 to 95 miles per hour. A .223 bullet from a typical AR15 leaves the barrel at 3,100 feet per second.
Uh.....which do you think would get there first?
And, if some potential victims were hiding from a shooter, wouldn't throwing rocks reveal their location?
I can just picture a shooter with a rifle gasping in utter horror, dropping his gun & begging for mercy at the sight of a teacher with a bucket of rocks.

So true Win! Great points. Too bad you couldn't sit in front of the idiot school administrators and present them!

When I was a child, the notion of an active shooter, someone coming into our school to gun us down, was utterly unthinkable. What was thinkable was the notion that the Soviets would be coming to drop an atomic bomb on us. This notion was reinforced by the drills that we practiced of cowering against basement walls or more absurdly, under our desks as if they could shield us against a nuclear weapon. The threat was more distant and impersonal, coming from an unknown and unseen enemy out of the skies. Our defense would be wholly passive. For that reason, I think that I preferred the fears of my generation to those of the present day... šŸ™€
