Actor Jon Cryer helping LA homeless with tiny homes project

So he's a good guy after all. He plays the terrible Lex Luthor on Supergirl. Why is it actors and other philanthropic celebrities can help solve the problems better than the politicians tasked with solving issues and doing what's best for their cities, states and this country? Oprah and friends were the ones that got homes built after FEMA mucked up the housing situation that followed the catastrophic hurricane Katrina. Good for Mr. Cryer. Wishing the best of success with this endeavor.

Never liked his politics but he was/is a tremendous actor; extremely talented!
One of my favorites, actually!
I've never watched Supergirl, but I'm glad he's acting!
This is a wonderful and much needed project and I wish him all the luck with it!

i think it's nice that some of them do something constructive with their riches. i also like when they do it quietly because then you know it's from the heart.

Celebrities use their own money to do philanthropic things so they can choose to do things that make sense to them without any opposition. Politicians have to build consensus about how the money we provide via taxes, fees, etc... is allocated. Unfortunately even when things make sense based on success in other areas or studies indicating they should work they still can't get consensus because the optics of the allocation upset enough of the electorate that they will lose their jobs by being voted out.

Case in point, it has been shown in several places that giving the homeless housing and other services costs less than not giving them housing and services and then paying to deal with the law enforcement, medical, property damage, etc... costs associated with homeless individuals. However there is a large enough portion of the population that bristles at the idea of giving people something for nothing even if in the end it costs them more not to give them something.
