Apothecary jars... storing food related goods

When it comes to storing food related goods in your home, do you use apothecary jars?

While I have a few jars at my disposal, I've never stored the likes of brown sugar in a glass jar. Does brown sugar remain soft when stored apothecary style?

No. It’s not air tight. It takes me months to use a bag of brown sugar, so my opinions may not be accurate.

Those little pottery pellets that you soak and add to the bag help a bit.

The best method I’ve found is wrap the bag tightly with an elastic and then store in a Kuraidori container. Got mine at Home Hardware.

For years now I have stored brown sugar in it's original plastic bag that it comes in, then into a Ziploc bag the original bag goes, then into a plastic ice cream pail with lid.

Even then it will stiffen over time.

We sweeten our coffee with brown sugar.

I have heard of Kuraidori before, and will have a look at what they have. Thanks for the mention, Jules.

I have one tall apothecary jar and I use it every springtime to keep scallions from my garden in the refrigerator. It keeps them fresh, and the lid helps keep the onion smell from penetrating everything. Because it is glass it doesn't absorb the odor like plastic.sugar and pottery flower.JPG
My brown sugar is kept in a big old Skippy peanut butter jar which I've had since the kids were small. I haven't bought that size in years. I'm very protective of my saved jars.
The hubby took one for nails and I didn't talk to him for a week. lol
A few years back someone gave me 2 little pottery disks, about the size of a half dollar. You wet them until it absorbs all the water and place it on top of the sugar. I do put a little piece of plastic wrap underneath the disk just in case it is to wet. Works for me.
