San Francisco Seeing A Surge In Shoplifting

San Francisco is experiencing a surge in shoplifting. 17 Wagreens have shut their doors since 2016 ballot measure raised shoplifting limits for crime to $950. Gotten so bad even security staff now at risk.

I also saw this recently a San Francisco Saks had $90K in merchandise stolen in a grab and run.

This gang of thieves may have also taken $150,000 in handbags from a Nieman Marcus in Palo Alto.

Did shoplifting left to run amok lead to the above thefts.

I listen to liberal leaning KGO Newstalk from San Francisco and they were talking about this last evening. This is out of hand. From what that one host was stating, they don't even stop them anymore.

And yet people keep paying insane prices for housing and rent to live in this paradise. Some hosts make snarky comments about people wanting to, and leaving California. How can anyone blame people for leaving?!

In this area, we have constant petty theft shoplifters that the stores don't seem to do much about.

Occasionally we have organized shoplifting rings that hit the Walmarts or the local mega mall and move on.

I think that credit card fraud where folks apply fraudulently or steal a card and quickly max it out with no intention of ever making a payment is more of a problem and probably safer than shoplifting.

I suppose the cost is automatically baked into the prices that the rest of us pay.

One of the issues in San Francisco is the escalation in physical aggressiveness with that $950 threshold. Credit card fraud is an issue but organized shoplifting gangs can cost retailers millions if not billions. From stealing make-up in a Walgreens escalating to these high end thefts from Saks and Neiman Marcus show the current danger. Wait until someone gets one of these shoplifting gangs way. I'm afraid these are going to transition into strong arm robberies.
