Semi retired dime-a-dozen, cheap, two-bit stand up comic

I've been lucky. Written for dozens of comedians and TV personalities, headlined comedy clubs and corporate shows nationally, co produced a show in Vegas for two years and now I mostly write and teach sleight of hand magic via zoom. Great for seniors.

A guy I've known on another forum for over 15 years used to work the door one night a week at a famous San Francisco comedy club. He met just about every stand up comedian from the 80's you've ever heard of and got acquainted with a couple. Has some good Robin Williams stories.

I'm not sure how to start a thread, so I'll just ramble a little bit here. When I was a young kid I loved watching Red Skelton and Jack Benny on TV. When I saw the Dick Van Dyke Show I remember thinking, "Wait a minute. People have a job where they sit around and think of funny shit all day. That's what I want to do."

I obviously never became a household name, but I did have tons of fun writing and performing comedy. I was the originator of HBO's Comic Relief, ran a number of comedy clubs, I was with Tim Allen the first night he ever went on stage, I co-wrote, co-produced and appeared in a dinner theater production called "2 Funny, the One Man Show So Good it Takes Two Guys To Do It" with the hilarious Geechy Guy, I hosted a local comedy talk show called Some Semblance of Sanity with such guests as Mitch Albom, Tim Allen, the Amazing Johnathan, Dave Coulier and others, I co-produced The Dirty Joke Show with Geechy Guy, which appeared in Vegas for two years, and I was the host of the On Tap Tour on cable during Red Wing, Piston and Tiger games in the Detroit and Northern Ohio markets.

Plus I had a number of grown-up jobs because, believe it or not, my family wanted both food and clothes.

What comedians do you guys love and/or hate?

Well, I don't respond well to comedians who rely on smut for comedy. That's over.

I love laughing at ourselves, wit and a certain amount of sarcasm. Impersonation.

I was a big fan of Richard Jeni, and Robin Williams- so many others I can't recall now.

Tim Allen, Margaret Cho, Sebastian Maniscalco, Jim Gaffigan, The Early SNL Stars, Jay Leno, Gabriel Iglesias,
Steven Wright, oh there are too many.

Excusing some of his language, I think George Carlin was a genius. As was Gilda Radner.

I didn't like Andrew Dice Clay or Richard Pryor.
