Do you find yourself with less energy than you're used to ?

I don't mean due to illness or disability .. ... .. but I'm in my mid 60's as most of you know ( young to many of you ) and I've always been very busy and active , .. not 100 % of the time, but enough that people have always commented on where I get my energy from..

It's nothing for me to take a long trip today... and then be up and it it again tomorrow etc.. but...I've noticed I'm slowing down a bit...

I'm resting after yesterdays jaunt to the coast... a lot of driving for me, cuz I drove both ways.. ..and then a lot of walking, and then sunburned despite my High SPF ...

I dunno if you guys my age or older, find you have to rest for a couple of days after a short trip or day out ...or not.. But it comes as a shock to me as someone who has always been known for having more energy than a Duracell Bunny, that lately I'm finding I'm actually winding down a lot faster after anything too energetic.. and have to take things easier afterwards for a few days ...before the energy tank is refilled and off I go again like a whirlwind

I don't mean sit home with my feet up necessarily after a hard or tiring previous day ( altho' that does happen sometimes) .. but definitely not be dashing around day after day which has always been my de facto lifestyle.... like today after yesterdays long day.. I've just sat around doing stuff on the internet.. just a couple of chores and no more, just feel that I need a big clockwork key to wind me up again.. .. and I feel probably won't be ready for anything again until the weekend...my few niggling health issues allowing

So.. any of you feel like this ?.....

We tend to space our outings to every 2nd day, but then, I've got something like 10 years on you 😉
Definitely have slowed down over the years.

I sometimes think about all the things I've accomplished on my own, and can barely believe it. My knees have played a big part in my slowing down.

yes , I have a problem with one knee .. only in the last couple of years.. but for example yesterday, I was bustin' for a Pee, and the public toilets in the park were about a hundred yards away.. normally I would run, but my knee now won't let me... it would just buckle under me. Fortunately it doesn't cause me to limp yet.. but it's constantly painful

However, I know that's not what's making me feel so worn out after a day out....I'm wondering if it's something as simple as use it or lose it.. in that we've all been unable to do much in the last 15 months..

I think that the use it or lose it applies. If I sit too much, I feel it in my knees .. definite weakening. Got to keep the joints moving.

No doubt, being restricted this past year + doesn't help.

Hmm, while I have always been a busy morning person, I have never been a busy afternoon person. But I get up and down constantly because sitting too long causes my body to stiffen up like a board. Due to health issues, since my 50’s I am always tired and seem to lack energy, but I push through it.

I have never reached energize bunny levels so I can not compare. But my son, in his early 50’s, always go go go; has slowed down since his heart surgery. If you have any heart issues, your need for recovery time may be linked to that or your other health problems.

I have plenty of energy to do what I wish to do

Now, where was I......

Just a child

Even the Duracell bunny needs recharging

There are times when I am full of energy and times when I am not. Today is a "not" day. Age is a factor of course, but it could be the kind of day it is weather-wise or maybe your medications are having an effect. I don't know. Energy is one thing but stamina and lasting power has definitely waned.

Hollydolly, this is EXACTLY how I feel. We're the same age so maybe it's just a function of getting a tad older? I understand completely.

COVID really did me in for about 4 months. I just wanted to lie in bed. Now, however, I have my stamina back and put in full days of activity. Feel much better since I have been cleared, which was just last month. I do get tired earlier than I used to, like maybe around 7 or so, I will at times just sit in my chair and pick up something to read, unless someone drops by to annoy me. I find late evening visitors annoy me, unless I know that they are coming.

I find a few cups of Earl Grey tea helps some.

No it doesn't matter how the weather is.. and I only take 2 meds per day.. neither which is likely to cause this...but thanks.I find I can be very energetic all day... but the next day I'm wrung out...

Yes me too..all our friends know to call us first..

i no longer have any energy or desire to do much of anything.
Marci, do you work full time ?

I'm wondering since I'm 66, and retired for 3 years now if I should return to work part-time...I dodn't need the money, but I wonder sometimes if I'm just not doing enough......I definitely wouldn't have the energy to work full time now..

i work full time and i'm totally exhausted most of the time. of course i am in a busy hospital kitchen and that's pretty hard work for someone whose in their mid 50s anyway. factor in my health issues and i feel like a slug on my days off. lol!

Marci..I understand, I worked 10 hour days almost every day on my feet right up until I was 63.. By the time it got to going home time, I knew that even another hour would have been impossible.. but I always managed to get through the day without losing my energy...

I'm sorry you're already feeling this in your 50's.. that's young

I'm 61 and feel worn out. Too much life long stress I think. I wonder when and if I will retire. I wonder what I will feel like in another few years.

My job is getting harder and harder to do. Even part time.
Remy.. by the time I got to just about 6 months before I took retirment at 63, I knew I'd had enough. ..I was fortunate that I could afford to retire.. but even then I'd left it a little too late , my back and my right knee had already had a toll taken on them.. I hope you can retire soon too..

Thanks me too. I'm self supporting and on my own. I think of my mother who's trauma was #1 and hers only mattered. My stepfather stayed with her to the end, put up with her abuse and had a nice retirement. She didn't have to worry about money. They were comfortable, nothing extravagant. All I do is worry, worry, worry.

I don't think I can make it at my job until 66.

Remy..please don't compromise your health by staying too long at a hard job... I say the same thing to you @MarciKS ... it's absolutely not worth it, if you can find a way to afford to retire please do not wait...

Yeah, I'm kinda there

Now, at 72, I'm coolin' my jets

Feels pretty good

Still got plenty to do, and the energy to do it...if I want

Here, its coffee

I can drain two pots if I feel the need for false energy

"Y'mean, gulp, you're not going to do this anymore? :)
