I have a single leaf with a new leaf forming (plant ) the same. I only bought it about 2 months ago
Of cause I didn’t pay near as much for the plant pictured , mine cost $250 ,
however there is another variegated plant that I seen on eBay sold for a little over $10.000 just recently

IMO some have more money than sense .The plant is known as a Mini Monstera in Australia
it’s normally green so when you get a variegated one people go crazy paying ridiculous money for then

I also have a bit less expensive one called a Thai consultation named so because it looks like stars in the sky that has 7 leaves ( only had 2 small leaves when I bought it 12 months ago )

Ive read up a bit on-the differences in the wide variety of plants that come under the “Monstera “
name , or some may know them as “Swiss cheese plants “
I believe the Thai may be the only one that’s actually breed to be variegated where most others are a freak of nature that’s why people tend to go crazy over an unusual variegated Monstera
@RadishRose

Now I'm curious... After I finish totally waking up, I'm I'm gonna have to go a-googling. Never heard of this plant before. What makes it so coveted? Medicinal properties?

I think it might be the variegation.
I guess that the color variations in these leaves, occur so rarely, that people might want to own something as unusual as that,
and enjoy watching it grow.? (y)

Look at the posts in this thread by @Kadee46
which give a lot of very interesting background info! :geek::)

Thanks for the warm welcome. I've only just joined and I'm impressed by the amount of activity and the age-specificity. I'm sure to be spending lots of time here.

One of the first things to figure out is how to add a sig line to my posts - I just need to poke around a bit - I'm sure its buried in here somewhere.

Thanks again for stopping to welcome me...

Easy-peasy.

Click on your username at the top right-hand side of screen, a popup box will display providing you with a list of options, click on Signature. Type in what you want, highlight the typed in portion to change the font, colour, etc, click on SAVE, you're done.

Thanks, Aunt Marg, but color me confused. I clicked on my username, pop up box did pop up with varying options, but I didn't see a field to add a signature - I can edit my avatar - add a profile banner - frustrating, but I'll eventually figure it out.

Hmmm... it may be due to the fact you're a newly signed on member.

You may have to wait for 7-10 days before the signature option will be made available to you and show, SmoothSeas.

If at that time you still have no access to a signature, contact, @Matrix

What makes it so coveted?
Very good question.
Those are very pretty and interesting leaves, too, with the shapes as well as the color shadings and patterns.
I'd enjoy seeing the plants, but not worth to me,
that price in the title of this thread though! :)

However, If @Kadee46 buys one, I would like to visit her, or she could show us a picture of it......
for free! :giggle::):love::LOL::ROFLMAO:

OK I’ll dig out the photo of the recent one I bought ,it’s looking a little “tacky“ cause the por thing was boxed up ,went through the post and delivered to me 4 days after it was posted
and because it’s cold here I don’t expect it to look much better till spring 🌼
I hope this will produce Lotsa white on the foliage cause that’s what sends buyers crazy $$$ wise white means lotsa $$$ @Kaila

THIS IS NOT MINE .. But the same as my small one in photo ^^^^

But hopefully that’s what mine (pictured above ) will look like in 12-18 months (y) (y) (y)

I believe because allot of the “ expensive” plants are freaks of nature no two plants are alike a bit like fingerprints , However in my research you’ve got a chance of getting a clone of a “mother plant “ by taking a cutting from the top of the plant.

This is a different Monstera sometimes referred to as Monkey mask ( I haven’t got one )
I seen one of there’s sold on ebay recently for $10.100 it was about 1/2 mtr high

The one pictured is currently on ebay and has almost $1.100 in bids it’s a smaller variety
climbing plant ..like I said white patches / variegated brings sellers big $$$
as an estimate from previous sales on ebay I’d say this will sell for around the $2.600 mark for a plant like this with 4 leaves
