Something new instead of knee replacement.

This is what I'm getting now as my reconstruction surgeon doesn't want to replace the partial knee replacement I got in 2000

These may be the same shots I got into my knees about 10 years ago although mine may have been more like water than gel. It's a set of three, each one week apart from the others. Is that the same schedule you're on?

I hope it works for you as well as my shots worked for me!

I got those back then also. It was Synvisc. I had the 3 shots a week apart.

They worked for 6 months. Then it kept getting shorter so the Surgeon said it's time for a partial replacement. That lasted till this spring. Now I'm getting these gell shots. I get one every 3 months for a year then will try to go without any shots. So the orthopedic reconstructive surgeon says. So far the knee is getting better with each injection that I never feel.

That's great news! My thoughts are with you as your healing progresses.

My mother got some kind of injections in her knees that was supposed to "irritate" the cartilage into reproducing itself. It helped for a while but ultimately she had to have both knees replaced......one had to be re-done TWICE. It was not a good situation.

The injections were not covered by Medicare and they were quite expensive.

That is interesting, I passed it on to my wife who may be a candidate.

I also suffer from arthritis in my knees about a year and a half ago my doctor suggested exercise. I joined a gym and began weight lifting, including a lot of leg exercises. It has had an amazing effect, my arthritis is not gone, but it is almost forgotten. I can do so much more without pain now, I am amazed. Probably wouldn't work for everyone, but it has for me.

Yep! That’s a good doctor.
Exercise. It’s surprising how many people stop doing anything once they feel pain which is usually the worst thing for the body. Either move your joints or they seize up. Once they seize up , pain is your constant companion.

Most of the people I know who had knee surgery or hip surgery, never exercised and never did the physiotherapy that’s suggested after surgery. Then they wonder why they can’t walk.

Exercise is like natural lubricant for the joints.
