Adjusting hair and checking waist band,....,(not men obviously)

grahamg

Old codger
I attended a local gathering this morning, (I'll tell you what it was exactly later, as its not really relevant at the start).

I noticed quite a "few people with long hair", checking their hair slides or grips, and adjusting their hair.

When not doing this I noticed the slimmer young people adjusting their waist band, on trouser suits etc.

I didn't notice many men doing any of these things obviously, and of course pride in one's appearance is important so that's fine, but you'd have to say women, especially young women pay far more attention to this aspect, (so not. Equal)

ROFLMAO, Graham!

Your post prompted a good laugh from me as well as a memory.

An aunt of mine used to pinch the elastic legs of her britches through her slacks (at the back, below her butt cheeks), and give a tug down, not once or twice a day, but every time she got up from sitting down, and it didn't matter where she was. At home, in public, visiting family, Aunt J, could be counted on adjusting her knickers and snapping the leg elastics to adjust everything proper again.

I often wonder if such doesn't come with getting older. I do know comfort is everything when we get older, because I'm there, LOL, so maybe all the fussing and pulling and stretching and adjusting is in keeping with comfort rather than how someone looks.

And…..🤷‍♀️? I’m unsure of the relevance.
Apparently men and women and have been doing things different for centuries.
Haven’t they?

Definitely for appearances, not for comfort these "adjustments".

A very slim young woman with her mum, in a pinkish trouser suit, very close fitting and designed so the top and the trousers just met at the waist, so not meant to overlap, and a bow on the front of the top to keep that tight around the waist too.

The hair slide playing business was fairly frequent, just to make sure the long tresses etc. were where they should be and nothing sticking up or anything, (if you know what I mean).

Oh, and the young woman with her mother could quite easily fold her arms behind her back, and look completely relaxed doing so, (no mean feat in my book, I dont think I was ever that flexible). 🤸‍♀️🧘‍♀️.

You could be right, or at least this website says so:

https://theartofcharm.com/art-of-dating/women-body-language-different-men/

"A woman will play up her feminine side by twirling her hair, giggling, sticking out their chest, making her legs more visible, etc."

"One sign of attraction that’s far more likely to be seen through women's body language than men’s is preening. When a girl is preening (subtly adjusting her clothing, jewelry, hair, etc. in order to appear more attractive) it’s often a signal,...."

(btw these young women were all looking away from me before anyone gets confused or owt!)

I chalk-it-up to being Sunday morning! LOL!

Just some proud women wanting to look their best, but funny how such things can and often do escape us, then out of the blue and for no apparent reason we'll pick up on them.

Your post brought back all sorts of memories for me this morning.

As soon as I posted my reply to your OP, I thought of another aunt of mine who would hold her hairpin (bobby pin) pinched between her lips and adjust her hair again and again though the day. She wore long hair and always kept it up.

Its often a signal of what? All those things you just mentioned could easily be a sign of nervousness. I did all those things when I was a child and I can honestly tell you that none of them were to make myself more attractive to others.

I think many of these differences are influenced by society; what we see on tv, in school, from friends, family and neighbours but I also believe some behaviour is from from DNA

No, I mean yes, you could be right again, (dont ask me, its all a mystery!):

Right ! Like this. I can do this but there is no way my husband can. Another popular difference is that many women can squat all the way down where they are basically sitting in a squat position. I can do this with ease and stay sitting like this whereas my husband can’t even get close to sitting like this.

That takes us to the point of ‘why would they want to.?’ Most men have no reason to sit like this but luckily most men can’t. Lol They aren’t built to however some East Indian men can and those with more flexibility.

It is somewhat interesting for sure but not something the average person would even think about.

Very interesting observations, I had a cousin who could do Cossack dancing when she qualified as a physiotherapist too.

You are right of course, (I'm just odd!)

BTW I noticed all this in church this morning, and I'm not suggesting in any way that the service or sermon was not very interesting/devout etc. (and with a very entertaining priest/vicar/minister)

You’re not odd. You’re just acutely observant and interested in things most people couldn’t care less about. Trust me ! I can relate and it’s ok. We’re all different in our own unique ways. I’d think that’s the way it’s meant to be.

You are very kind,.........., mentioning Cossack dancing though has lead me to this:

Those guys are in very good shape
Taken from sources given. Playing with hair is usually from nervousness; to relieve tension more so than a way to flirt or look attractive.
Just sayin’ 🤷‍♀️

No, you're right, (again, this is getting a habit!).
In church plenty of folks may be a bit nervous perhaps(?).

This is going to be a bit risky, and riske, but its what I found when looking for examples of two piece sits for women, similar to the one I've tried to describe in an earlier post:

Whether it's vanity or not, (it probably is,) every detail of my appearance gets a quick inspection before going out. No marks or stains on the clothing, shoes clean and polished, everything presentable. Fine, off I go.

When you think about it though, I come out of the bathroom every morning having showered, shaved and scrubbed, so if I take a pride in my cleanliness what's so different in doing the same with my attire?

I’m assuming you meant that you looked up two piece suites for women not ‘sits.’ If the above is what you found, then clearly you are seeking sexy looking women and while there are some out there, ‘most’ women don’t look like that. Oddly enough I also looked up ‘women in suites’ and my discovery was far different than yours.

Also the topic went from adjusting hair and checking waist to women dressing sexy. Why? If you are trying to make a point that some women dress provocatively, then your right. Some do, but this isn’t a one gender issue. Some men dress provocatively also.

My wife wears a suit well, although this one is a skirted suit rather than trousers. As far as I'm concerned I think she demonstrates that an older woman can still look good, suited and booted, as we Brits say.

I do the same, after pulling myself together, I do a quick take, complete with a turn in the full-length mirror to check myself out, front and back, I check out my rear (do women just do that or do guys do that, too, LOL)... then out the door I go.

Nothing wrong with what you do, just don't adopt my Aunts thing and start pulling and tugging at your undies every time you get out of your MG. :ROFLMAO:
