keeping track of time

My mother had a hard time remembering the three hour time difference. There was many a Sunday that I didn’t get to sleep in.

starsong....keeping track of time in the US being of the same day is not the same as europe day difference.

how do people who live in london remember that its tomorrow in paris plus one hour?
The sunset hour is a time trick. France is in a time zone that's one hour ahead of the UK but geographically it's slightly to the east, meaning the sunset actually reaches Paris before it reaches London, even though it exists in a time that's later than the UK, so it's already later when the sun sets.
Quelle heure est-il?

It's not difficult for me to always bear in mind that my east coast friends and relatives are three hours ahead
Yup

I kept a world clock in my head when dealing with Europe, Asia, and the left US coast.

Now?

Whenever is my PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) or PST (Pacific Standard Time)

I'm callin' it IRADGARPT (I'm retired and don't give a rat's pooper time)

When my wife and I drove from Memphis to Chattanooga, the last thing we expected was to drive through a time zone. They might both be in Tennessee but Memphis is one hour behind Chattanooga. It's logical when you remember that time zone lines are not like State boundary lines, but it still scrambled my brain.
