Soy insulated wires in Tesla electric cars being eaten by rats

It appears that most auto manufacturers have, or soon will, be using Soy compound insulation on their wiring. I suppose there is some "environmental" incentives for this transition, but it may well cause more problems than it cures. Any vehicles parked outside, overnight, may especially be prone to this kind of damage. This looks like another reason for me to try to keep our older vehicles running.

That's where we're at, too.

Yep, same here. We have a 2002 Mustang with 68,000 miles on it. No tracking devices, still in good shape and running good. Our other vehicle is a 2017 Nissan Rogue with all the electronic crap on it.

Soy's other no-no. (sorry... :) ) I ate 3 mostly made of soy meals a day for I think 3-4 months. Around 5 months later, I found a lump in my left breast. Small cancer. Lumpectomy. Before the surgery, I read about how soy can have a cancerous effect on some women. I wondered if my eating so much soy for those months had caused my breast cancer. I stopped eating all soy from then on. Haven't had any cancer since my lumpectomy.

Your post reminded me of a little something, Pro. In the winter months we plug our vehicles in and every year we fight with trying to feed the electrical cord past and through the many tightly condensed engine parts and components. Everything is so packed in, you can't even see the ground under the engine, yet I remember helping hubby change the oil in his old car (back in the day), and there was room for a stove, a fridge, and a beer cooler in the engine compartment.

Agree. I stay away from soy for that very reason. Doesn’t it increase testosterone in women which increases the chance of women getting cancer?

I’m really sorry you had to go through this. Glad you survived and are ok now. 🥰

Before my soy experience, I was wishing acres of tobacco growth would be taken over by growing soy. 😦 Soy compound insulation a possible other product enemy? Who came up with using soy.....for anything anyway!? 🤔

Rodents chewing on wiring in vehicles happens all the time. May or may not be cause and effect because of the insulation composition.

@Elsie, when you were eating soy, were you eating conventionally grown, non gmo, or organic soy? Also in what form were you eating it? I'm just curious about it. We eat a lot of soy products compared to most people and I live in bean/corn country.

Mornginstar patties--I guess they contain more soy then that which Asian country people eat. Which might have been the cause of my problem. I don't remember what were all the ingredients.

In this case the soy is attracting them more than usual.

The chewing of wires is frequently about teething by the young and not so much eating. Squirrels will chew on telephone and electric cables above ground and rats and mice will chew on underground cables. Same reason many pets/dogs chew on things especially as a pup-teething.-

Yup, I had read about that possibility, I never eat soy -as far as I know

So did you opt for the beer cooler?

40 years in construction and engineering, probably could relate at least 50 incidents of contractors' equipment being disabled by mice eating wires. At our golf course, we have about 50 member owned carts stored in rental sheds. During winter months, we will provide rat poison... if the member asks for it... to put in the sheds. If they don't, they will have golf carts disabled or other damage from the mice. A couple years ago, a lady had the shoelaces totally chewed out of a pair of golf shoes in her shed. I saw them!!! A couple small pieces of the laces a few feet away, but most of them totally gone. The shoes did not appear touched. The lace eyelets weren't touched. Just the laces themselves.

I don't see where the auto manufacturers have any responsibility/liability re the rodent issue. The more dependent on computer chips and technology our vehicles become, the more damage rodents can do. Were I her, I'd have called my auto insurance agent. What's the difference between rodent damage, flood damage, wind damage, hit & run damage???
