Two people, man and wife, die in a plane crash together, intestate, who does the law say in most states, died first for inheritance purposes.

I'll give the answer if no one gets it in the 1st 5 responses.

If the FBI asks you if you committed a certain bank robbery and you answer, NO, when you really committed it, that in itself is a crime.

Police to suspect: You are coming with us, you are going in for investigative detention/questioning.

Suspect: Am I under arrest?

Police: No, but you're coming with us anyway.

Suspect: I protest going in, but I will not resist if you force me.

Q: Is that an arrest regardless if the words "You are under arrest" are not spoken.

A: Yes.

I have to admit they did not cover much about Constitutional law, in Nursing school. So here goes. Every cop show on TV, has the scene where the accused is read his rights. And you've seen what happens when the accused opens up.
I don't think people realize the cops have been involved with crime/criminals, a lot longer than you.

Know your rights and abide by them.

You have the right to remain silent.
You have the right to an attorney when questioned.

Don't let them con you by saying that, if you want a lawyer, you must be guilty. In reality, you must be smart.

The legal system doesn't work unless both law enforcement and citizens follow the rule of law.

Biggest mistake guilty people make is to talk without legal representation. (Thankfully)
The biggest mistake the innocent make is to talk without legal representation. No one should talk without representation and no one should represent himself. The huge problem, of course, is that representation costs a bundle.

If you are versed in the law, there's little worry about talking to the cops. Public defenders do a fair job, but people like OJ have/had the bucks to have a top notch defense team. If the state/city does not intend to seek jail time if convicted, they don't have to provide Counsel, at least under the federal constitution. The problem is many do not know what to say, so some do clam up, some don't, and yes, further incriminate themselves.

You need to be WELL versed in the law!

Yes. Have you ever seen some of those so called "Sovereign citizen" videos on youtube where these people claim you don't need a driver's license to drive and cite so much non-applicable law/case law, it is really amazing at the ignorance.

One idiot cited the definition of "Carriage" from an 1843 edition of a law dictionary to support his theory, talk about weird.

This is one video. He lays crap on the cop that he is not driving, he is travelling, he is not engaged in Interstate commerce or for hire, what he is driving is not a motor vehicle by law. Geez.

Well, I would love to endorse that, but one thing I know for sure about cops is: When they(the smart cops) are in trouble they keep their mouth shut, request union rep or attorney. Police officers are (by nature and by training) geared up to find a suspect. A police officer trusts his instincts and training more than he trusts you....as a stranger.

Here is the one with the law dictionary quote, but it was 1856, not 1843.

You won't believe this guy, and believe it or not others buy this crap, this guy is amazing.

The Sheriff's Dept. I used to work for would encounter the Sovereign citizen types here locally. They're bit was to flaunt their unconcealed firearms carry, just tie-up the deputy's time.

In most states today, it can also mean only that you are either a person of interest or a possible state's witness.
