How do you let your age define you?

Well, I try not to as much as possible, of course then there are realities that have to be acknowledged. For example, I've advanced to the age where it is no longer advisable for me to climb up a 24 ft extension ladder to do work on the roof of a building.
In all other matters I continue to live as if I were in my mid 40s. I exercise and stay moving as if my life depended on it...which it does.
Me too. I still climb because I always enjoyed heights and walking around on my roof gives me a better perception of where I live. It has always been fun to be "Up On the Roof." Good segue, huh?

I'm looking at a Jeep Liberty Sport now
Don't

The Liberties suck

Stay with Wranglers

Mid to late '90s

Less bells/whistles the better

Not much to go wrong
Cheap to maintain

Bought mine new in '99
It's goin' with me when I kick

Damn! I LOVE your Jeep!
Gary o, I fear you are living MY LIFE!
It appears I am not in the price bracket to get what I want! I must settle as this is a need, not a want.
At least it's a 4WD and at least 6 cylinder. The body type is the least repulsive of all but the Wrangler or the Rubicon. (of the Jeeps)
I'm SETTLEING.
temporarily.
dependable, good engine, reliable, affordable.
Not in a position to get what I really want at this time.
Gotta make do.
Sorry my friend, don't mean to let you down.

Well its not really settling if you can't afford the one you want. Your doing the next best thing for you. Have fun, go on an adventure even if a short one.

You are a manly man, Gary. You don't owe anyone an explanation as to why you do or don't do something. I admire anyone that can live off the grid and still survive. Keep on keepin' on.

I need to buy a used car. Not a want; a need. I still like taking off to parts unknown; off-roading I'm in my 70's but feel young and healthy, fit and have a lot of energy. Go places. Do things.
My ideal would be an old Wrangler Rubicon as it's just me and my big dog. My children talked me out of it because "Those are for the younger crowd ,Mom!"
Even an old classic pick up truck would suit my style but "you would just be trading problems, one for the other!" "It would always be in the shop!"
I'm looking at a Jeep Liberty Sport now but I'm feeling like I'm "settling". It's what I'm "expected" to drive at my age.
I guess we have to do that when we reach a certain chronological age., don't we? No more adventure?

Do you? Do you do what's "expected" or what you really want to do?
I did my year's solo trek through Alaska and got my hundred year old mountain cabin in the woods when I was younger. So now that I'm older I have to live normally? I've been told I qualify to get free meals at the Senior Center now and can play cards in the afternoon. OMG! I can't think of a worse HELL!

Do all of you adapt to your circumstances without fight? Do you "settle" into the way others perceive you? Just curious.
Frankly, my kids, as wonderful and talented as they are, are clueless about cars. They buy what they think is expected of them for their status in life and/or what kind of image they should project. I've no clue where that came from as we buy what suits us and don't much care what others think. When I bought the little Miata some 11 years ago, there were the inevitable "What are you doing with that unsafe little thing?" and "Going through your second childhood?"remarks. The true purpose was to have fun going places with a great handling car and give the wife the sensory stimulation she needed. I still drive it but the kids won't get in it, which is just fine.

Get what you want ,, remember you only go around once.

We've had motorcycles when we were first married,, then sports car,, even raced them a few times.
Bought ATVs at age 70,, traveled 'out west 'to ride trails.
At age 79 plan on going to MI this Fall to ride trails there.

My husband has worked hard all his life,, earned the right to play hard for as long as he can.

Yes Jon! You're right! My two kids are thousands and thousands of miles away from me. It's just me!
They are very much into high tech and STATUS as you said! I'm more like Gary! "The less bells and whistles, the better!"
Now I'm more confused than ever!
I must do some heavy pondering and pontificating about this!

Thanks everyone for your input!

My only advice would be to take your time, figure out what would best suit what you want, do your homework and research (i.e., cost, reliability service requirements, etc.) and avoid being pressured into doing anything in haste.

Oh hell no... Fight to the bitter end is my motto. You should buy the wrangler if that's what you want. Don't let anyone else dictate your life.

How about a nice used Subaru Outback (not one of the tanks they ar these days) or a Subaru Impreza. They are SO lasting used ones are hard to find. I’m still hanging onto my 21 yr old one. Nobody im close to expects me to act in any other way than being myself. Or warn me off anything im thinking about doing. They’ll discuss things but no one has ever said I’m too old if I. Serious about something.

Gotta love that...yessir

Most any low slung little rig (with the top down) goin' thru the curves of a country road, will get anybody's blood runnin'
Pretty much the essence of turning an existence of life into living/loving of life

A bug eye Sprite can do jus' that

....and they even look happy

I more or less do whatever I want to do. Try and stop me and you've got a first rate New Jersey gal fight on your hands. Translated: you will not win.
Never been beaten, (that some proud boast to make, even "the greatest" lost once or twice didn't he!). :)
I more or less do what I like too, though I do concede at times as well, to reduce stress or whatever, or if the person you're up against is so dumb its a waste of time trying to enlighten them! :(

I gotta thank my womanly woman.
She was right beside me, or hovering over the fire, or scrubbing clothes, or hauling wood, or skinning game, for those five years.
Man, you nailed it. Without my wife, I'd be lost. Together, we have built a house, re-modeled several others, converted a Greyhound, built race cars, (then both of us raced them), gone motorcycling all over, Rv'd over most of the country, been boating, fishing, hunting, and on and on. :) 👩‍❤️‍👨
All that and how she has helped keep the demon's in my head at bay. (y)
