My "Checking/savings accounts and my Social Security check have been suspended".

Got a call. The guy said that my "Checking/savings accounts and my Social Security check have been involved with 'illegal activites, and WE have suspended" all your accounts. Yeah, I had to call this 1-800 number, etc. It wasn't that hard to figure out it was a bogus call. The voice kept saying "we", well, who is we? He never really said he was from the SSA And another thing, he hinted that he was from the Social. Sec. Admin., and to call for immediate relief. If you've had any dealings with SSA,, to them "immediate" means next June.
Got to admit, it was a scary sounding call, I can see where some would get all flustered and call that 800 number.

I've had the IRS call, the "Your Amazon account has been suspended" call & the Social Security Call. I usually let my answering machine answer, but when I'm expecting an important call & I do answer, I just say "Go screw yourself" & hang up.
When it's a recorded sales pitch, I wait for the "For more information, press 1." I press one & when someone comes on, I say, "Please hold on; my wife is very interested; let me get her." After a couple of minutes, I say, "Did she pick up?" The guy says, "No."
I do that a few more times, then I say, "I don't have a wife; I'm divorced. I just wanted to waste your time, too."
That seems to get my number off their list; they don't call again.

Amazon, Revenue Canada, Bank Accounts where I do not even have an account.

Seriously what if you kept them on the line and told them you do not have an account with that branch. I figure they might say some deceased uncle opened the account and left it to you in his will.....I wish

Have to try that one with live callers. Robo calls have slowed a bit with new legislation. But DD had one a Thursday that hung up as soon as she said 'I know this is a recording. (Many of them try to fool you into thinking they are calling live.)

Oh I'm really sorry. So bogus. Sadly some do fall for it. The real social security administration wouldn't do this. Another red flag is stating your bank account with this also. Geeze.

I just remembered something important:
Sometimes, I'll also say, "Can we do this again tomorrow? It's fun." :)

One thing I read was that giving them any replies at all puts you on their lists as a ‘possible sucker.’ They’ll keep trying. Someday they might catch you with the right lie.

If I do pick up the phone and there’s no immediate reply, I know their machine is waiting for another ’hello’ and then the person comes on to spiel the nonsense.

Glad you didn't fall for it. A friend of mine (now deceased) got a similar call one time. They said if he didn't do something or other (forgot what) they'd send the police to his house. I guess he shocked them when he said "Go ahead, send them". I don't have to worry about ridiculous calls like that anymore. I don't have a landline and my cell tags scam calls.

My nephew was telling my sister and my son and I talked about this Sunday: Don't answer the phone saying or answer a question with the word "Yes" (my husband used to answer the phone that way). They can use that Yes for their scam. My son answered "Peace" the other day and got no response. He claims that, instead of Hello causes confusion for their program.

when the phone rings, unless i KNOW the person calling or expecting a call, i simply DO NOT PICK UP!! if caller really wants to talk to you, they'll leave a msg.

a year or so ago, i got calls from 2 "special agents". i don't remember if they were claiming to be from SS or Medicare or IRS. they both (can't you just hear the theme to left a msg, which i never returned... special agent STEVE MARTIN (visualizing the banjo, arrow thru head and "happy feet")... special agent Raymond Burr (cue theme music to Perry Mason).

just DON'T pick up! talk to callers... NOT!
