Marine commander relieved of command after calling out military leaders for Afghanistan withdrawal

Scheller claims to be resigning from the Marines, but I'm skeptical he'll give up his benefits. This is what he posted:

"I'm currently not pending legal action and I could stay in the Marine Corps for another three years, but I don't think that's the path I am on. I'm resigning my commission as the United States Marine effective now," he said in a new video posted on his Facebook and LinkedIn accounts. "I have forfeited my retirement, all entitlements, I don't want a single dollar."

He has political asperations, but being a cheerleader for more war is probably not going to get him elected. Most Americans are sick of war.

In the (My Lai incident link in post #9 the article describes how a helicopter crew came across the My Lai scene and rendered not only aid and rescue to the surviving victims, but made contact with those U.S. forces responsible and ended up reporting the incident.
Atrocities happen in every combat theater, people get crazy with the extremes and do monstrous things. Killing unarmed combatants is no different than killing civilians, and gets prosecuted in military courts.

I didn't say it was a common occurrence in the military. That's your misinterpretation.
I said that anyone who didn't participate or who spoke out against it would be harassed & ostracized.

Not a "misrepresentation" on my part, as I said I was "getting the impression that you think that's a common occurrence with the military", since you made made the statement repeatedly. It doesn't really matter to me what you think or say, it does seem like you have a chip on your shoulder, I hope you feel better soon.

Some people are OK with the truth, even if it doesn't flatter the military. Some (like yourself) are not.
Ron Kovic tells the truth. The truth only hurts when it should. Too bad it hurts you.

The US Marine Corps is not a democracy. It is a military arm of the United Sates Of America. You don't get to vote on your orders. And no one really wants your opinion on policy.. As an Officer and a Gentleman,, he had two options. Obey lawful orders, or get out of the Marine Corps. He chose the latter.

Ditto. More awols during the 80's and 90's, each year, than during all of wwI , wwII, Korean and Vietnm altogether,
and 'free' to stay in usa or canada or britain , free from prosecution, for many years.
Why awol ? Because the privates, sergeants, corporals, even generals, saw that "we" (the 'good guys'??!) were killing too many villages, women, children , and non-armed non-combatant men and teens, and were profiteering from mind-boggling billions of dollars not accounted for and the drug trade was tremendously increased even using military ships and aircraft....
Why awol ? What "old rules" ? How "old" ? How far back would you have to go to find a righteous, just, honorable war ? In what country ?
