Profanity Written on Clothes Out in Public.

hey get over yourselves, freedom of speech is a guarantee. you dont have to like it but you have to allow it or else shut the hell up!!! you can come in here and piss and moan all you want but in public keep it to yourself!!!!
Freedom is a two way street, you might think that displaying profanities is your right. Parents of small children, at a very impressionable age, might expect the wearer to behave with a little more consideration.

That isn't really true, there are limits on free speech. A couple of examples : One can't yell "Fire" in a crowded theater. Where I live, if one reads the crime blotter, people are routinely charged with creating a disturbance and making terroristic threats.

A whole lot of people give lip service to freedom of speech, but don't really believe in it. What they mean is they are free to say what they wish, how they wish, but if you if you disagree with their view point, they are more than ready to physically confront you-- or worse.

People that do display profanities are simply labeling themselves so all will know what's inside. Thanks for the warning, profane people!

I also refuse to wear advertising whenever it is possible.

As far as wearing obscene words on clothing, I don't like it at all. But forbidden words have power.

The more some of us are shocked and disgusted by certain words, the more others will use those words for shock value.

It's sad those people need attention so badly.

okay borloff----your example of 'fire' is not in keeping with the free speech idea. same goes for """you cannot say anything about doing harm to the president""" you cannot walk up to someone in a violent manner and threaten them....this is not the same as what is meant by """""""""""""FREE SPEECH"""""""""...you can make all kinds of absurd statements about our freedoms,, I can accept that,,, (freedom of speech,, right)

Yes, those are other excellent examples. You seem to express an attitude, but it wasn't my intention to cause that reaction. I merely just gave a few examples of why it isn't exactly as simple as guaranteed freedom of speech.

The second statement I stand by. I wasn't just describing any particular group. It's fairly universal, on a whole range of subjects. People on the right vs the left, religious vs atheists, free market vs socialism, etc etc.

No, people don't have the right to commit violence against someone for disagreeing with them.

I would like to know what you found to be so absurd by what I said?

I won't buy any clothing bearing words or pictures of any description, I refuse to be a walking advert for a clothes manufacturer.
Anyone walking around with obscene words or pictures on their clothing have a 'screw loose'.
I've never liked logo clothing either unless it's a rescue or animal organization. T-shirts with cats, absolutely.

I asked a man once why he had his shoulder and arm completely plastered with tattoos since no one seeing them could decipher them. He said he had them done not for others to decipher but for himself as an expression of his life. IMO, his shoulder and arm looked messed up. To each his own,......................

I think it's in bad taste.
Of course its in bad taste, unless the "politician" is somebody like Hitler, in which case its still uncalled for in public. Neither of those words belong on a shirt.

On the other hand it makes it easy to spot someone to avoid...

The only shirts I have with words are LSU football things from 2019, the year of their national championship. I am an LSU grad.

Hmm. Just for the sake of clarity, let's see what the First Amendment actually says:

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

I went to Walmart today. Of coarse it was Walmart. A woman, 30's maybe, had a tank top on, on the back it stated "f**k major political figure" I'll keep that political figure nameless since this isn't what it's about.

I think it's in bad taste. I curse. I'm careful who I do it around. I don't want to offend people and of coarse Walmart has small children in there.

Thoughts?
one of our doctors at the hospital had socks on that could be seen when he sat down that said "something carpe effing diem." To me that's very inappropriate clothing for work.

I never see the things y'all see at the Walmart here in Friendswood. My daughter works at the nearby CVS and says its a different type of people here. My sister in La. sees what y'all see at her Walmart there she says. Again different type or class of folks.

@Nathan I know. And can you imagine what the people putting things like that on their vehicles are teaching their children?
They say "ignorance is bliss" but I totally disagree. I believe what "goes around comes around." Swear and act stupid then be prepared for what is going to come your way. In the same way, be kind and nice to people and you can bet that in 95% of the time, people will be kind and nice to you. Your choice on how you want to live!
