I Got Called "Depolorable" By A Seller On Etsy.

I returned an item I ordered. I never fully unwrapped it and I won't go into why I returned it but there were reasons I didn't want it. She keeps giving me a run around now saying she can't confirm she got the item back because she is "out of town" and that I'm using an "excuse" and it's "deplorable."

I'm pretty upset at this point. I have ordered from Etsy and I have returned a very few items and have never had trouble like this. My fault for not searching her policies good enough and I found rather hidden that she doesn't take returns. If I'm out, I'm out. It was $25.00. I'm about to never order again unless it's a repeat shop I know is good.

I've never had a problem with any Etsy sellers, but then I've never tried to return anything.

Your seller sounds like a buyer I had on Ebay many years ago.. who bid and won a large ticket item.. then didn't pay for it despite several emails from me over a period of several weeks. I heard nothing..... finally I gave her a bad review.. that jump started her immediately , screaming, throwing a tantrum, she'd been out of town, no access to a computer, never had a bad review before , was just about to pay for it yada yada.. actually had the nerve to leave me a review on my perfect 100 % FB saying I'd threatened her.. Ebay had to step in and remove her review, she was banned soon after.

I wouldn’t worry about it.

I’ve had mostly positive experiences buying from individuals online but there are always a few that are difficult to deal with.

Last weekend it was a seller on FB Marketplace that told me I had issues. I told him that may be but I also had the money and if he wanted it he would have to do things my way. 😊

Post a review on Etsy going into detail about this. See if that stirs the pot any. That person is bad for Etsy business.

On edit: Etsy does not get very good reviews, in general.

She's kind of not seeing the fact that the review is wide open and I could leave a poor review. But I won't do it. I'm not that confrontational. The thing is, running any business, you have to know sometimes people will not be fully satisfied. I was not in any way nasty about the return, told her the problem that was IMO and that I was mailing it back. I didn't wait for her approval.

I've bought some lovely things on Etsy but I agree it's full of resellers. I have to go out again, but I'll check out that link. Thanks for posting it.

Years ago I worked with a woman who started selling vintage on Ebay, her first item she sold was returned. She refunded and still went on to sell decently well.

you're right, but remember for the most part we're dealing with individuals on Etsy and ... there's always going to be some people who don't have ethics.
So true. I'm not going to do some back and forth with her but I think we have all returned things to stores and otherwise. If you run a business, it's going to happen. I'll bet she's returned something and hopefully didn't get name called.

@Ceege Yikes, that was bad! I had no idea. I have read in the Etsy forums complaints from sellers that trying to get a hold of Etsy is difficult. Etsy is making a lot of money I am sure. Especially since they don't do anything about the re-sellers and don't stick to their handmade, vintage and supply goal.
