Migrants in Texas: US 'to fly thousands back to Haiti'

I agree the number of illegal crossings is up, and that may well be due in large part to the change in policies that came in with the new administration. But it is far short of the disaster that "open borders" would be. And I do not believe "the border was largely under control" prior to the new administration. Just not as bad.
I agree there have been too many for a long while. They are currently up over 300% from the last year. That's about 2 million a year. That's more than ever before. I guess each of us have our own thoughts on when it's time to be concerned.

I can sympathize with people trying to find a better life....BUT I don't think the US should be accepting thousands of immigrants simply because they find a way through our borders. Anyone wanting to enter this nation should do so Legally, IMO. After all, the Last thing we need is thousands more on Welfare.
Maybe we should build communes and put them all to work for room and board, so to speak. Surely there's something they could do so they wouldn't be a burden to society. Or we could do that in the countries that they're fleeing, with the cooperation of those governments.

Yep, I've been concerned most of my adult life and have seen little to nothing rational being done about it.

I had a little hope with the 1986 Simpson–Mazzoli bill. It was supposed to grant amnesty and then put a stop to the illegal migration. The amnesty part worked, but the stopping illegal migration was a failure...

Where do you get those numbers from?

This article says they're up, but by about 100%, which is just above where they were two years ago, but far below where they were in the early 2000s, and it's maybe 900,000 — not 2 million. Those numbers reflect migrants detained at the border, most seeking asylum.

This article has much lower numbers, but still alarmingly high.

Personally, I think we should work with the countries they're fleeing from and try to make conditions better there so people wouldn't be trying to flee, but in some of those countries — especially those in Central America, the U.S. created a lot of the problems by overthrowing their democratically elected leaders during the Cold War under the pretense of trying to stop the spread of communism but really it was to protect U.S. business interests.

You who are not in border states know nothing of what we have to deal with. Our school systems are expected to absorb and teach children who speak no English, feed them breakfast and lunch at no cost to the family, and still educate our own citizens. And take care of homeless, vets, disabled Americans, and a hundred other worthy causes. Sure, let’s make conditions better where they live. Any money the US sends is siphoned off by corrupt politicians. I don’t know what the answer is, but I sure as hell know that the quality of life in this country is being pulled down.

Yep, good point. This is one reason, probably the best reason, we need to find a humane way to put an end to illegal migration. We only have so much money, space, and resource to go around.

OMG, how are these poor people getting water and food?
I don't know, and it looks awful. If I were there I am sure I would try to help, as most of us would.

On the other hand these people did knowingly go there illegally and of their own accord. Not a reason to refuse help, but this is not the same as victims of a natural disaster or something.

I agree, but I don't think that will be sufficient. We need to figure out how to make illegal entry something that does not pay. So long as it does they will come.
Yeah, we can implement communism! That will keep them out! :ROFLMAO:

As bad as things are in the U.S., it's still the land of opportunity — especially compared to all the Latin American countries and Middle Eastern countries. And now that there's a severe worker shortage, they'll find jobs and have a decent life, except of course, for the ones that get into gangs and drug trade.

If we continue on the path we're on, eventually the U.S. is going to be as bad as Mexico and Central America and the middle and upper classes here will flee to Europe.

Well, it's an interesting problem because we have the same thing going on her in Canada but on a different and lesser scale. The government says "we welcome all immigrants." That is nice but you got to really think things through what all these immigrants mean for the future. When your population increases, you have more pollution, more traffic, more crime and more congestion. You will also have to build more schools, more hospitals, which means hiring more teachers, more nurses, more doctors and bigger cities and more social services. All of this costs money. Are you interested in your taxes going up 50%? I bet you are not! Right now, just in the province where I live there are 2,000 jobs for nurses that need to be filled. It's nice to think that we are "goody, goody two shoes" type of people and we can save the world but we can't. There is a huge population problem in this world and no one wants to talk about it. Birth control anyone?
The U.S. population has increased by 100,000,000 since 1980. That's ONE-HUNDRED MILLON.

I was sitting here thinking about these flights and I came to the conclusion that I would NOT want to be the pilot of one of these disease carrying tubes. (Pilots sometimes describes an airplane as a tube.)

Mexico is refusing to let them back in their country. The number of people is estimated to grow to 20,000 in a couple days
The U.S. has already reported that 1.5 million illegals have entered the country. We should expect 2.0 million by the end of the year.

I believe that is the real problem with immigration, legal or not. The population of the US has doubled in my own memory, and the growth has not, in my opinion, made our country a better place to live. For example, I like open spaces and land at low prices, both are quickly disappearing...

I believe most immigrants, not all but most, are good people and had contributed to our economy. Problem is there are just too many of them.

And ... I seem to have read that when they claim asylum, they end up with a lot of paid benefits that we have to pay for.

Reagan's decision to grant unconditional amnesty to illegals set the table for this. Recall that Bush also wanted to do this as it leads to cheap labor and increases profits for wealthy elites. Among the biggest problems with it is the ethnic selectivity such as what we are seeing today: Afghans being welcomed with open arms, Haitians and Guatemalans being put back on a airplane and exported even though there are just as much political hassles in those countries as in Afghanistan.
