Today I am picking up hearing aids.

Glad to hear you are getting used to the new Aids.
I have the same company, but the in-canal ones, Virto M90.

All my other Aids were in-the-canal, so just kept going with that style.

The phone app is helpful when I want to switch to settings like 'Restaurant'.
Also with the app, my Audiologist can remotely adjust my settings without having to do an in-person visit.

Hang in there, things become second nature with continued use.
Opens up a whole new world of hearing.
 
I have hearing aids too. I admit I don't use them as much as I should because I kind of like living in a softly muted world. I've never had perfect hearing not even as a child, so all those little noises that I had never heard before in my life can be a bit off-putting. Yeah, the blinkers on the car were a surprise. Also, the clicking of the keyboard when I type and the rustling of paper, mail, newspapers, etc. Who knew that paper was so damn noisy? You do get used to those minor noises after a while, but the aids can be overwhelming in particularly noisy places.

I have a phone app that allows me to turn down the background noise in noisy places and that's a plus. Without that, I would never wear them at all. It was deafening before I figured out how to use the app, not helpful at all because they just amplified all the noise. In my opinion, they make the problem worse without that feature.

@Leonie I downloaded the phone app yesterday. I haven’t really done anything with it other than a bit of playing around to get familiar with it. I’m curious how much control it will give me once I’m actually in a restaurant for example. Maybe I can get out somewhere this weekend.

What a coincidence. I picked up my new Starkey $5,000. hearing aides Wednesday. Back in November I had a stroke that blew out my hearing in my left ear. Before, I was already starting to have difficulty hearing. They are amazing! I can hear everything. Even through masks. Only thing that bothers me is that I can hear myself chewing food.😂. So far seem easy to operate and care for. I am already recruiting fellow residents at my Assisted Living to go to my Doctor and Audiologist.

I kept looking behind me when I walked across the floor because it freaking creaks and I didn't know.

I'm still trying to figure out what the strange metallic noise is that happens randomly when I walk around.

And there is a faint beeping, coming from.....somewhere.

It's an iPhone, XR, a couple of years old. An iPhone is the recommended phone but some models of other phones will work with them. I think the aids (ReSound GN) company is involved with Apple somehow, maybe owned by them, not sure?
 
I have Phonak hearing aids also, and I am very satisfied with them. I wear glasses and they do not interfere with them. The only time I have to be careful is removing a mask. Sometimes the elastic get caught. Also there are buttons to raise or lower the volume.
I debated about getting rechargeable ones, but for me, i like the fact I can just pop a new battery in instead of waiting for the aids to recharge.
I can buy 30 week's worth of batteries for about $ 15 on eBay. They are frightfully expensive at the drug store

Ron has an X-R, (he has phonak aids too but different model than mine because he has different issues) I have an 11. Glad to hear that you’ve had no problems.

One more question if you don’t mind @Leonie. My hearing aids announce who’s calling by name just like my AirPods and Beats do. I can’t get Ron’s to do that even though Ive made sure our phone settings are exactly the same. He has the Virto brand. Does your phone announce who’s calling?

No, it doesn't Ronni, it just rings in my ear. The display on the phone shows who's calling, but that's it, no announcement from the phone, with or without the aids. There might be some setting that would do that but if so I haven't found it.

Actually, the ringing to the aids can be annoying if it happens when I am in the middle of talking to someone. It happened twice when I was having an eye test and I couldn't hear the optometrist asking me questions because of the insistent ringing in my ears. :oops: Which of course, he couldn't hear.

Using the mute button on the phone doesn't work, it still rings in the aids. Airplane mode works to silence it but also stops it from reading QR codes. We have to check in with a QR code wherever we go these days because of Covid. Oh well, I guess nothing is perfect.
 
Ronni I have the same kind of hearing aids. The only complaint I have is I seem to build earwax more often if I leave them in all day. I see your ear insert is different than mine. Mine were custom fit to my ear canal. I only mention that because I can't see the opening in the center of the black insert. Mine has what looks like a little white plug with a tiny hole in the center. Those are wax guards that are easy to remove & replace. I bought a supply of those online at Amazon.

For TV the close caption along with having a blue tooth head set paired to makes it possible to enjoy without having my hearing aids in constantly.

Hearing clearly when out sure makes a difference in enjoying sound & conversation that was missed before. Good luck with listening to sounds again.
