Do you like celebrating birthdays?

When I was a kid, birthdays were big deals. I remember going into double digit birthday number (10 )-OOOH! Now, I'm 75. It's no big deal. To be honest, I never understood birthdays, as a big deal. Being born wasn't much of a choice on your part. It's not exactly a heroic feat. Do you like celebrating others birthdays, and do you like celebrating yours?

My first and only childhood birthday cake was when I turned 10, for some reason.
However, we always had a birthday party with a special cake for my daughter's birthdays .. and still do. We celebrate all family birthdays.

yes I did exactly the same . Went a little overboard truth be told, to ensure my daughter didn't grow up feeling as I did as a child, particularly her being an only child too...

Birthdays were pretty low key when I was a kid.

We could choose what we wanted for dinner and the type of cake. My usual choice was pineapple upside down cake with fresh whipped cream. Presents were usually something that we needed or a small amount of cash.

My birthdays still follow that simple pattern with the exception of a cake. I still buy myself a couple of small presents or treats.

I’ve passed all of the significant milestones in my life like eligibility for SS or Medicare.

It’s not a big deal. I think that there are only two people left that know my birthdate.

I send a couple of birthday cards each year but I don’t celebrate any birthdays.

Does anyone remember having a birthday cake with money inside it when you were a kid?
I remember my Mom used to wrap coins in wax paper and stick them in the cake somehow before she put the icing on. It was so exciting getting a dime or a nickel and not just a penny

Mom threw birthday parties when we were kids, but now I just go to dinner with a few friends. That's all the celebration I want. I see adults online in recent years celebrating for a week, buying formal gowns for birthday portraits ...nuts imo.
What drives me nuts are people who celebrate all month!!! Some buy gifts for self all month long. What kind of birthDAY is that?!? I see this in Facebook, by the way.

I am liking birthdays....less and less. Reason being is that I've been away from the family where they know how to celebrate. Hubby and I will usually order a birthday cake (small) for ourselves. Gifts to me are usually money from him. I am more practical at giving him gifts; I'll buy him what he needs, i.e. clothing, books, etc.

I can remember my 13th birthday. I became a "teenager" and considered it a big deal. Now, I am 75 and no longer like my birthdays. Actually, I often wonder why I'm still around when so many of my friends and former co-workers are gone to their final reward? However, in my last birrthday (#75), a lady friend made me a cake which I thought was rather nice. However, I don't know who/what was nicer; the cake or the lady friend. Guess, it's nice that someone cared for this "old timer."

We like to celebrate our Great Grandkids birthdays, but the adults just exchange birthday cards, and we have an occasional birthday dinner together, perhaps once or twice a year, and that suffices nicely. Our oldest GGD will be turning 16 in a few days, and we plan to all get together for that somewhat "special" birthday....and hope she is careful as she prepares to start driving.

As an adult, not at all. And it has nothing to do with being older...just never liked being the center of attention, or having random people wishing me a Happy Birthday. I think it is a part of my shyer, introverted nature.
This is why I do not list my birthday here or on Facebook
This random person hopes that all your birthdays are delightful. Happy Birthday Whenever, Marie.

I love celebrating birthdays including my own. I haven't had the opportunity to celebrate mine in some time and I felt sad about it. One day I will again.

My mom was big on celebrating our birthdays and always baked some real special cakes. I recall one was a beautiful doll where the bottom of it was a dress made of cake. Great birthdays we had!😍

I have a daughter who likes to treat me to a vacation for Mother's Day and birthdays or family gatherings, etc...but usually it never comes up that it's my birthday...except with the thought first comes up. It's nice because I'm uncomfortable to be the focus but truly love watching my family have a good time.

Oh, btw @Murrmurr Happy Birthday 🤣

My daughter gets so much joy out of treating me to dinner and gifts for my birthday .. though I've always preferred to spend a quiet day, I go along with it, as it gives her so much pleasure.

I wish I had done the same for my mother.

No, I don’t like celebrating birthdays. Thank you for writing how I feel @Gary O' @Marie5656 summed it up too.

My mother did that. It was the norm when you had a party. I did it once for my kids and the kids quit eating their piece of cake and began demanding more pieces.
