And it seems to be getting worse. Here is a grid that shows the mass shootings so far this year. There were 66 in September alone! One recent heartbreaking one is when the children were waiting for the school bus early one morning and a boy got killed. We shouldn't have to be afraid to go shopping, get our hair done, walk down the street and children especially should have to be afraid they'll be shot when they go to school. So many of the shooters have been children themselves or teenagers. How do grade schoolers get their hands on guns? When will this subside?! :cry:

Well Diva, The people who took over power debase, defile and defund the police departments. The few who remain have an enormous disincentive to go into the high crime areas. So, Those with an undeveloped intellect and maturity want to test their parameters.

Mass shooters don't usually come from high crime areas. Those in high crime areas kill more than mass shooters overall, but they do it bit by bit.

I've come to think that we humans are way too volatile, way too unstable, and way too vindictive to own fire arms. We can't handle them. Guns put the power of life and death into totally inept hands. And anyone, who wants one, can get one. Other nations, who have banned weapons, do not wake up to bullet riddled dead bodies in their streets. Those nations don't feel the need to be armed to go to shopping. Their citizens aren't terrified of who is in tall buildings.

Every Sunday morning on the 6 am news out of Indianapolis In. They are talking about how many got killed over Sat. night. Any7where from 5 to 12 Most are done by kids from 12 to 15 years old. Why are they out at that time of night/morning?

Some are riding around in cars & shooting at houses with people sleeping that get hit. Some are just driving on the Interstate & they shoot the other person's car for fun so the police say. Really bad here on weekends.
 
It is difficult to make accurate generalizations about mass shootings. These challenges occur, in part, because......
(1) there are many different definitions for mass shootings, each of which may be useful for a somewhat different purpose;
(2) we have incomplete data sources that do not track these events in a consistent manner over time, likely include a biased sample of incidents, and lack the full range of individual and incident characteristics researchers are interested in; and
(3) there are statistical limitations inherent in trying to draw inferences from rare and idiosyncratic events. Using definitions that differ in their thresholds for the number and type of victims or the circumstances around the incident results in vastly different estimates of how often mass shooting events occur, how the rate has changed over time, and incident characteristics.

Even across studies with a similar definition of a mass shooting, the different data sources (or combinations of data sources) used sometimes result in different findings. A comprehensive administrative data source that reliably captures mass shooting incidents with sufficient detail does not exist; relying on news reports alone is problematic because of well-established systemic bias in what gets reported.

Mental health in this nation is absolutely tanking, worse by the minute. The ease with which social media spreads distortions and fantasies makes everyone unhappy and feeling disenfranchised.
 
Our society is becoming increasingly "divided"...for a number of reasons. The only time I can recall such "division" was in the latter years of the Vietnam war...when protests and riots seemed to dominate the daily news. This pandemic seems to be the "final straw" that is pushing more and more people over the edge.

With more people seeming to get their "news" from idiot postings on Facebook/Twitter, etc., "distrust" is running rampant across the nation. All the misinformation regarding this virus and vaccines is causing millions of people increased Stress. Couple that with the increase in illegal drug use, police "standing down" in many neighborhoods....due to the BLM movements...is an open door for the street gangs in our inner city areas.

Our nations politicians have gone hard Left, or Right, and refuse to compromise on virtually every issue....leading to even more damage to our society.

The various shutdowns and restrictions on normal public gatherings have created a high level of Paranoia for many. The interruptions in our education systems is having a marked effect on many of our young people. Working parents are struggling to find ways to balance their work routines, with every changing school/daycare restrictions.

It's becoming a real Mess!
 
I don't want mass shootings but I can understand the anger that many people are feeling over the last couple of years. Many of our freedoms have been taken away. We are told that we all have to "bite the bullet" because "we are all in this together." But we are not in this together. Snowbirds from Canada can fly south to the US but they can't drive their motorhomes over the border. Now, we learn that many of our leaders and celebrities are hiding their wealth in offshore bank accounts. How to you think someone who is earning a minimum wage and struggling feels when they read such news stores. Doesn't sound like it's a fair world? If you remember the "Panama Papers", you might be interested in the "Pandora Papers."

Are you insinuating that mass shootings in churches, shopping centers, work places, and schools is because "freedoms have been taken away?"

You’re dead on, John. Not just that, but these big multi-millionaires and billionaires don’t care about the rest of us. People in Congress only care about their party. They vote the will of the party and not the people. A recent broadcast on the BBC had a short segment about how big the gap has got between the very wealthy and the average working Joe.

The drug industry is going strong and with all the more drugs coming in through the southern border, it will only get worse. We have all read and heard on TV about the drug gangs going after each other in Mexico and South America. It may be only a short time before we have gang wars here in the U.S.

There are three things destroying the US:
1). The drug industry
2). The weapons industry
3). Poverty

Only one is imported. If the two domestic ones were eliminated the import problem would dry up without lifting a finger.

This is nothing new and has been going on for decades now at least so I don't think anyone should be shocked.

If someone can do something about it then I applaud them.

Nobody with any sense pays attention to them, but some people get all caught up in the sensational lies. His calling the deaths of of grade school children a 'hoax' and a 'false flag' event inspired many of his devoted fans to harass and make death threats against the grieving Sandy Hook parents.

The US is inhumane. You've got super-wealthy and dirt poor, destitution. Do you want to know what is worse? Being told that if you are unemployed then "it's your own fault". Is it any wonder there exists so much crime in the US - guns are the best way for them to earn an income.

I agree 100%. Here they have quit giving mental help to veterans that have PTSD. They just put them on pills. Now they are taking away the pills & telling them they are on their own. Their mind is warped so they don't know what to do.

Then we have thousands of unvaccinated people coming across our southern borders. They are bringing in Smallpox again. We quit making the vaccine for it many years ago. Now they are starting up making that again for those people.

People are out of work because of microchip shortages for cars. Go try & buy a new car, the price has jumped about $10,000.00 Same for used ones. I have a nephew that has a body shop. He use to get parts for cars the next day. Now it's 2 to 4 months out & people are screaming for their car to be fixed.

Everything is in such turmoil even with the pandemic making it worse. I heard on a local news channel this morning China has defaulted on a ten million loan. So China makes most of our parts & if they are losing money then were in deep poo poo.
