To put it plainly... it weaponizes germs.

Unsurprisingly, he shamelessly lied through his teeth, vigorously denying the agency’s involvement when he was grilled by Senator Rand Paul.

Now, his lies are catching up to him, so the NIH is scrambling to cover their tracks. On Friday, after they couldn’t keep a lid on it for any longer, the NIH scrubbed “gain of function” and its definition from its ‘research involving potential pandemic pathogens’ page on its website.

The ethics of animal experimentation need to be looked into.
However, the real discussion here should be... should we take the word of a serial liar about anything.

I don't know about this particular project but I do know a bit about animal testing. Used to work in a place that did a lot of it.

Many things are done to animals that we would all cringe to hear about. Very cruel by almost any standards.

Much of it is necessary to allow for development of human drugs and the like that save human lives. And to test toxicity of chemicals we are exposed to, also saving human lives. That I can understand.

However a lot of it is also done to test things like eye makeup, not something I feel as good about.

This story may well be true, if it is however I would want the whole story before judging it.
