Original thought

Gaer

"Angel whisperer"
At times, a gentleman or two will make a statement on this forum where at once, several people will demand, "Where did you get that information?" "What is your source?"
I've even seen his reply as,

"I stand by my words!"

'MY WORDS"

I LOVE THAT!

Personally, I've written things on here where a dozen people will search the internet to disprove me. They won't find anything because my sources are heavenly, not Earthly sources. It may even be from my own mind!

"Oh No!"

"Your own mind???"

Are we allowed to have an ORIGINAL THOUGHT?

Let's say your source was a newspaper, written by a journalist, or a magazine, written by a writer! I'm a writer of articles in international magazines!
So, Why do we need another person, just like us, to BACK US UP?

Don't we have our own minds, our own thoughts? Can't we reason?

Must all our opinions come from some other person's mind? ( a person much like ourselves?)
It's rather silly, when you think of it!
Try thinking from YOUR OWN MIND! You might be impressed!

and,
hahaha! Lighten up folks! Maybe I'm just trying to entertain ya!

Original thought

There may be some lovely members here who will scold me and say, "I think I'll make a pot of tea", is not an original thought, but let me explain. If I get such a thought, then I must do it or I'll forget what it was I was going to do, and then I'll be thirsty all night, so here we go, my original thought, I've just switched the kettle on. Oo look, my lights have dimmed, it's probably everyone switching on their kettles for a pot of tea. 😊

hahahahaha! You're a NUT! (said lovingly)

Personal opinion gained from exposer to a variety of sources posted as original thought can also be questioned. When expressing any thought that questions what is written in the bible. Faith, blind faith, & disbelief have been beaten to death, as a topic that can't be proven. Yet on a personal level each has their own original thought.

So IMO original thought has it's place in our lives.

Another one is @myfeethurt, something I say often in German "Meine Fusse tun weh" when I'm at work because my job has to be done standing on my feet. I wonder if he speaks German.

How come other people are so clever? I know that I'm minus the travel gene. Do you suppose there's also a clever gene, and I'm missing that, too?

The problem is there are bad sources and reputable sources for facts. I tend to keep to places like the NIH, the CDC, and medical websites (like Mayo Clinic and the American Cancer Society).

Still, based on the CDC's "problems" during recent years, I tend to wonder if those problems are still occurring, so I look up additional reputable sources. I also wonder whether the sites I use are indeed reputable -- could what I am looking up have a bias in one direction or other? Probably, because people are inherently biased and it isn't possible to remove all bias from one's work or opinions.

Newspapers are especially suspect to me. I think that the ones I used to consider to be the best, are clearly biased in some major subjects, after a 5-6 period of me perusing them on a daily basis. I don't do that any more. I read the headlines several times a week, but otherwise it is too stressful for me. I take the media with a grain of salt. One time, a major newspaper published an article on a case my husband had just finished trying. A major government organization called him and the newspaper to ask them to kill the story. It made the government organization look really bad, and my husband had more than ample evidence to prove it at trial. The paper published the story anyway. But it made me wonder (I was shocked) how many stories are killed or get whitewashed because a powerful entity or person asks for them to be.

Anyway, I do not trust the media any more. I read everything with a grain of salt. There is a reason why newspaper articles are not permitted as evidence in a criminal trial. OTOH, eyewitness testimony, notoriously unreliable, is permitted.

I read a book that addressed human biases. The author said to read both sides of an issue, and then think about it -- including trying to discern one's own biases. I tried that, and it just made me mad (because I am biased). I think, truly, that I am biased in favor of certain national issues, without being able to fully grok those issues because I would have to educate myself on so many subjects to be able to do so. Then comes the question, am I getting reliable, good info on those subjects.

Being me is sometimes a pain in the a**.

I read your post and squinted at her name for a minute, "What is she talking about?"
Then "OH!" Bust out laughing!

The CDC and NIH used to be reputable. About five years ago, after much name-calling and shade-throwing by politicians, everything they did and/or said became suspect and has stayed that way:(

And then there's the old saw "Trust me. I'm from the government. I'm here to help":D

Well, I was talking about our "opinions"!
Even in physics, facts continually change.
A fact may seem correct now and in ten years, be an incomplete idea.
We usually put quotation marks around words from other people.
(just babbling)

My opinions are based on facts, except for those which are my personal preference. For example, I love certain books, colors, fashions, interior design, that other people dislike.

I didn't quote words from other people. I read so much nonfiction that if I had remembered the book title I was talking about, I sure would have.

I am guilty of adopting inspiration as my own. It is so hard to distinguish the multitude of voices in my head from reality. I am unique and somewhat informed as an intergalactic reception beacon that no one outside of me truly understands.
‘On that note, don’t mind me, I’m original.

Yabbut do you have a tin hat?

And then there's Chris P. Bacon:ROFLMAO: who, incidentally, has a birthday today.
