Are you a pacifist?

Should the west go to war with China if they try to take Taiwan? Some would say yes because they threaten democracy and others will say no, it’s their business because it used to belong to them anyway. The politicians will decide and we must follow.

Are you a pacifist?

Don't know.

Maybe to a point.

Once past that point, I become a pissedoffifist

Some of us ol' men shouldn't be messed with

(more than a few 20 somethings have learned this)

You remind me of Santa Claus. I wouldn't be scared of you. You look like one of those kitten on the inside people to me. That, btw, is a compliment. Of course, I'm not a twenty-something (I wish), and I would never consider messing with you in a negative way.

I am sort of a pacifist. I despise war. I hate violence.

If one or more countries attacked the US directly, I would defend us if I could. But I doubt I would be an active soldier - not the least of which is because of my age.

However, I have thought over that years that some people need to be killed. These were heads of governments (not ours) who were tyrants and plainly psychopaths or sociopaths. So in my thoughts, I am not always a pacifist. My thoughts did not contain any notion of me taking care of these problems myself, however.

My mom was a small child during WW2, in Germany. She suffered from severe PTSD for her entire life because of that. She escaped from East Germany when she was 18, leaving behind all her relatives. Actually, her aunt had already escaped, and facilitated that process for her. She told us about some of her childhood during the war and postwar, but never the really bad stuff. It remains a mystery because she threw away all her journals before she died. The things she did tell us were horrifying enough.

It's kind of an outmoded word these days, but I do consider myself a pacifist still. I dislike hatred and division more than anything. Don't get me wrong. I would fight for myself and loved ones, but peaceful diplomatic solutions to problems such as we seldom see are much more appealing than constant bullying and rank division.
Sometimes wars have to be fought. I have seen very few pacifists in my life time and certainly not here! What sort of person is the one who starts a fire and then runs away before the explosion? Certainly not a pacifist!

Do you think the USA should have intervened in Viet Nam?
No, not a war we should ever have gotten involved in.
Poland and France did not have much choice did they?
No they did not, but a 100% pacifist would have just let them in unopposed... I guess.

I know the UK situation was different, but I think they were right to go to war with the Nazis. If they had taken the 100% pacifist line I suspect the Nazis would have invaded them as well.

If you read my post, you would see I said I would fight if attacked myself or if my loved ones were. Otherwise, I think diplomatic solutions to problems are best. No one had a choice against Hitler. Vietnam was a different story.

I do too. You can't be pacifistic with some individuals.

Weren't most of us Pacifists during the Nam war?
But, In WW11, everybody rolled up their sleeves, gave up coffee and sugar and rubber and gasoline to get behind the boys!

What would our stance be if China and Russia and Iran got together to attack America? Would you still be a Pacifist?
(Something to think about)
I said if I or my loved ones were attacked, I would fight back. Pacifism is just my nature as constant discord is a stressful state and humans have difficulty becoming their best and most creative under constant stress or warlike atmospheres.

We need JFK. He defused the Cuban missile crisis without going to war. Too bad someone shot him.
My thoughts EXACTLY. I had believed human beings were becoming more enlightened as a species and would find diplomatic solutions to problems such as JFK did during the Cuban missile crisis which is a sterling example of how diplomacy at it's best avoids war.

I would love to be a Pacifist! it's a peaceful, Heavenly, beautiful idealism! It would be wonderful to believe in a utopian civilization, in the nobility of mankind!
But, I also believe in American individualism and in fighting for our freedoms, for which we are quickly losing!

I'm no longer idealistic. This is a lowly world. War is already being planned in the minds of men. It's too late to turn back.
It's time to send us all back for recycling or submit to Communist China.
IMO!
I agree with you and since we are quickly losing said freedoms daily, which effects me personally, I will fight like a Trojan though I would rather love.
