Why is corned beef only available near St. Patrick's Day?

I can get CB as cold cuts in the grocery deli, but that's not the same as having a boiled round or brisket. I never see CB in the store other than right before the March observance.
Briskets, both with the spice packet included and those without, are available year round where I live in Nashville TN

I just bought one at the Kroger supermarket a couple of days ago, will be putting it in the crock pot Saturday night for Sunday. We've just been slicing it and making sandwiches with it on Rye Bread, even made one before our camping trip for a delicious and easy meal. I've bought them at Walmart too, nowhere near St. Patrick's day.
 
This brings back memories of when I was a child, and my father would get sliced corned beef and a whole loaf of warm bread from the store (yeah, they were warm in those days) and he'd slice the crusty bread and stuff it with the delicious corn beef. There was something about sinking my teeth into the warm crusty bread with the rich taste of that meat that has stayed with me all my life. I think I'm going to check out the store next time I shop - see if they have corned beef. Don't know about warm bread, but I could always warm it in the oven. :)
 
It is always in large markets where I am. Vienna or others. Smaller stores, no. Or at a kosher store.

Restaurants think it is seasonal only, foolishly. Like turkey, pumpkin pie, peppermint ice cream
and fruitcakes, etc. I wish it was sold and eaten year round.

We used sliced rye bread, and just warmed it by lightly toasting it in the toaster. But yes, homemade bread is best. We buy small French baguettes from Costco that are frozen. We heat them in the oven, pretty often for different meals.
 
Sorry, I misunderstood. I agree that corned beef is not widely available as an uncooked but corned hunk of beef. I suspect it can be ordered, however. In fact, out or curiosity I just called a large butcher shop in town and they assured me they could order it and have it in for me within a few days.
 
Well, a "hunk" of corned beef is always available for cooking at my local supermarket, year round. However, I am in the NY/NJ Metropolitan area, so this should come as no surprise to anyone at all.
