Every time I watch these types of movie reels from the old wars, WWII, Korea and Vietnam for me, anyway, I wonder how many people really deep down understand the sacrifices that these men made. We watch these videos and think wow, that's really something and at air shows, it is a treat to watch the airmen's skills, however, very few people realize what level of skill it takes to fly these military airplanes while shooting or firing missiles or dropping bombs at their intended targets. This training doesn't happen over-night. The type of flying that I did, flying commercial planes, pales in comparison to military flying. Even though some aircraft was manned by more than one person, it takes a lot of training and skill to coordinate the efforts of the pilot, gunner, bomber and what other personnel may have been on-board. I have always felt a great sense of pride knowing that the American Airmen were the best in the world and thanks to them, the ground soldiers and the seamen, we are able to walk free today.
