What is something you would like to master?

I would love to master sewing. I had 2 opportunities when I was young. My mom wanted to teach me and then in high school I could have learned. Both times I screwed up and walked away.
I bought a sewing machine on impulse a few years back and enjoyed making small items, runners, towels, curtains and managed a sleeveless blouse with one side lower than the other. lol
I'll drag it out again in January when I have time to do projects but I'm not to optimistic at this point.

I would love to master Mandarin language: Putting politics aside, I love Chinese traditions, food and history!
My hubby, who is Scottish-Canadian, took a beginner's Mandarin college course. He practices via internet programs and teaches ESL to adults who are mainly Chinese. Most speak Cantonese, as it's the most widely spoken dialect. It's fun to hear him speaking to them in their language.

I'm Japanese-Canadian, and he doesn't have any interest in learning Japanese.

I would love to master the violin .. but, I can't for the life of me, read music. I know I could play by ear. Hubs used to play violin with an amateur orchestra, years ago. He learned in his 30's.

I would love to master more computer skills than I have now which is pretty basic. I use Ubuntu and I know it has a lot more to offer than I am using.
Me too. Though I know enough to get by with the basics, I also know that there is almost another world available to me if I was to learn all that my lap top can do.
Then I think, "If I can do all I need to do, why worry about the rest?"

I would like to master the art of:

1. Having all of humanity die in their sleep by natural causes

2. Knowing the winning Powerball numbers.

3. Being able to sleep while standing up, driving or anything else that requires even a modicum of effort.

4. Reading peoples minds.

5. Reserved for future indulgences

I would like to improve my piano playing. Right now I am about a 4th grade level, but I just started playing (by ear) a year and a half ago. Don’t read music and I probably have developed bad habits, but I enjoy playing, so I end up playing at least 20 minutes each day.
I am sure you receive great pleasure from playing.
This skill will only improve as the years pass and you can also bring pleasure to other people as well.

I would also like to learn Japanese too Pinky, so the toss up will be between Chinese and Japanese. I think the Japanese are among the most polite people in the world. I love the customs and adore the tea ceremony especially. I have two kimonos!!

Best of luck Nathan. I tried Taichi a while back but other activities got in the way. I think it may be of benefit to me now. Any advice?
I have Osteoarthritis, and some undefined back pain and discomfort. Gentle movement and stretching do more for me than any medication.

Medication? What a joke! Kaiser Permanente will not give me anything that is a Central Nervous System depressant because I am over 65. Nothing. Oh, they always say "take a Tylenol"...yeah right! Tylenol does NOTHING for pain! I have never met or talked to any other human who claims that Tylenol works for them.

Anyway, back on topic: Here is one of perhaps millions of Youtube videos for a nice 10 minute session:

I see people doing that at the park sometimes. It looks relaxing.

I do a little at night before bed...with tensed muscles and all.. I love it  I agree - "Medication what a joke". ...One size does not fit all but some physicians thinks it does.

Thanks a million. I found this on youtube and saved it in my favorites on my phone. Can you do it at night and in the morning? I probably do both....morning and night

You can do a little Taichi / Qigong or a lot, anytime you like, as long as your body says it's OK. :)

The video I posted is by Don Fiore, he has a bunch of great videos in his Youtube Channel. He specifically tailors his Taichi forms for the senior audience. That is my target group as well(of course) for my practice sessions. I just started visiting the senior center in a neighboring community, folks there are late 70s and above, there is about 8 people that join in with a lady there that's leading a fitness session. She has invited me to add some Taichi into her class. I'll be reviewing my material to make sure it's compatible with her participants.

A second language seems to be a popular choice here. After high school I spent some time in the Netherlands and learned a lot but not enough Dutch to be fluent. I always wanted to master the language of my ancestors. During the last administration, we made some noises about moving there so our DIL (daughter in law) sent me a link to DUOLINGO. I forgot about it until I came across it again, the other day. It is a free website with daily lessons for a large list of languages to learn - even Klingon!

I have done a short Dutch lesson, or two, every day for the past several weeks and a lot of what I learned in 1973 is coming back. There may be a fee to upgrade - They keep offering me a "free 14 day trial for the PLUS feature" but I haven't clicked on that yet. Check it out.
