Three men who murdered Ahmaud Arbery found guilty!

Racism is one of the elements included in the sacred documents our founding fathers (slave owners) authored.

Not all Founding Fathers were slave owners. The abolitionist movement started long before the American Revolution and some of the founders were as well. There was great controversy surrounding the writing and ratification of the Constitution and part of that was due to conflicts between slave owners and those opposed.

One of the lawyers for the defense, Laura Hogue, should be disbarred for what she said in her closing arguments. If this isn't blatant racism, nothing is.

"Turning Ahmaud Arbery into a victim after the choices that he made, does not reflect the reality of what brought Ahmaud Arbery to Satilla Shores in his khaki shorts, with no socks, to cover his long, dirty toenails."

How did she know if he had long, dirty toenails? Was that in the autopsy report or was that just an assumption on her part? And what's wrong with khaki shorts? Bizarre.

Get off the South crap!!! Try going outside of your house sometime to get a breath of the real world. Racism is everywhere in all countries and all over this one big time and growing. Hatred is on the rise due in part to a certain clown we all know. Racism is one of the elements included in the sacred documents our founding fathers (slave owners) authored. Anyone want to write the year blacks were legal to vote in this county??? Shut up and read a book!
Most of us who even mentioned the South made the same point without being so hostile! And a couple of us have ties to the south or live there now.
I was born there KKK burned down our house when i was 8 because my parents crossed them. But i am well aware racism is pervasive. After we moved to NJ, same kids that teased me about my southern accent and made cracks that i must be racist, not only said ugly things about Sammy Davis Jr & Mai Britt marrying but a few years later were giving me grief (name calling, deliberately jostling me in hallways, one tried to push me down stairs) because i socialized interracially and belonged to an interracial interreligous organization.

My 2¢ worth might likely ruffle some feathers. If the Aubrey trial had been conducted in Kenosha, there would have been a conviction. If the Rittenhouse trial were in Georgia, there would have been an acquittal. Regardless of region, the outcomes would have been the same. Nothing about either verdict resolves anything in regards to racism, imo.

The issue is whether the outcome would have been the same for Rittenhouse... if he were a 17/18 year old black kid. That a difference might exist is where we need to focus, imo.

I was hoping someone would start a thread on this topic. After the verdict was announced, I actually felt a sense of hope again for our country. I'm just so sad that it took this innocent young man getting murdered by these racists pigs to help our nation breathe again.

And here's to the idiot who was convicted that filmed it all and gave the jury evidence. Not only racist, but stupid.

Her comments to try to make her case were absolutely disgusting. My response to her is, "Well, you look like a bimbo. Does that mean you're not really a lawyer?"

My DIL and I were talking about the verdict today. We were both so happy. I told her I don't think I could take it if they were found not guilty and she said many people felt the same. Another thing is she talked about racism "in the south" and I told her what you pointed out, saying that racism is all over the country, not just the south. Some of it is insidious, some blatant. And you're right...that "clown" empowered the most blatant racists.
@SeaBreeze...I love your meme's! My DIL, who was following the news about this very closely (I had been out shopping) said Ahmad's father pointed out that "all lives matter" and although I'm pro-Black Lives Matter movement, and for good cause, I absolutely agree with him. People need to realize that saying Black lives matter doesn't mean everyone else is excluded. As human beings, all of our lives matter.

I felt the same way today as you did, also felt that way in the Chauvin trial when he was convicted. Hey, sometimes we have to be grateful for stupid people, they can be very useful.

I can respect the man for saying that after burying his son, another victim of modern day lynchings in America. As you know though, the BLM movement began for that reason. It was specific to one group of people who were wrongfully murdered by either cops or racist civilians. Today, it was generous of his father to say that, but in general, those who counteract Black Lives Matter with All Lives Matter or Blue Lives Matter is just a way of diminishing the validity of the BLM movement, IMO. My skin is white, I don't have to worry about being gunned down in the street or shot in the back during a traffic stop, black Americans do and that's a damn shame.

I perfectly understand what you're saying which is why I support the BLM movement. People who don't obviously either don't understand or choose to ignore the reasons the movement began in the first place, as so eloquently stated by you. But not only was it because of the unwarranted killings of people of color, Black girls and boys (and adults) who went missing did not get the same kind of police attention to their cases nor the media coverage of their White counterparts.

I completely agree with you, there is a lot involved here that needs to be addressed, not just the killings.

I don't think saying Blue Lives Matter is a way of diminshing BLM. They are 2 separate things and if someone can't see that it's their problem. Blue lives do matter as well as Black Lives Matter. However, beware of some of the movement that only want to cause chaos and are violent, armed, hateful and racist their selves. There exists racism in ALL races. And if you don't believe there is racism in all colors I don't know what else I can say...it does exist and I have experienced it many, many times. Luckily I'm still alive and said nothing about it ever.

It seems tho some races are more quick to call racism than others when we all have a tough road to plod.

Also it seems too that the ones who keep yelling racist constantly are the biggest racists.

I am thrilled that the men were convicted.

As far as racism, I was surprised when I moved to Boston and went to law school. One day, a close friend of mine confided her racist thoughts to me just in a casual conversation. She figured (I had learned by then), that I had similar views since I was from the South.

My best friend in law school was a Black woman. We sat in these huge classrooms with tiered seating, and she was sitting at the very top. I, being new to town, was pretty upset because it felt so foreign to me. She was the first Black person I saw since I'd moved. So I went racing up to her and asked her if we could be friends. We clicked instantly.

One day my friend and I went shopping at an exclusive store down the street from my place. It carried beautiful pottery and dishes -- 30 years ago a set of 4 dessert plates cost around $400 and were imported from France. I used to go there just to look around. That, it was raining. I was wearing jeans and my friend had come from court and was wearing a suit. Guess which one of us browsed with no one around, while the other got followed around? I saw that happening, and tore into the lady who owned the store. My friend said, don't worry about it, I'm used to it.

When I lived in the South, I was the accountant for a tv production crew that worked on basketball games. A lot of the crew was Black. They told me they hated going up north for games because racism was rampant.

Then we moved here and my kids heard a certain word (N) for the first time in their lives when they got on the school bus. This area is around 97% white. I feel like a fish out of water in this environment. When we moved to the Boston suburbs before my daughter was born, the town was like Stepford. Despite this, my kids' best friends were Black, Hispanic, Jewish, Chinese ... I made friends with their parents, and the five of us very much enjoyed spending time with their families. The Chinese woman cooked American food for the first time one Thanksgiving (we used to switch off having Thanksgiving at each other's houses). She made the best stuffing I have ever tasted ... even better than my mom's. She taught me how to make some Chinese food, too. For her, I ate tofu.

I like it much better where my mom used to live, in Georgia. It was a celebration of people of all races, lots of different nationalities, and so much fun to meet people and so interesting to talk with them. I didn't even have to leave mom's neighborhood to enjoy that.
