Photos of You When Young

As I’m going through this ordeal of sorting photos for scanning, disposing, sharing, etc I realized there aren’t many of me when compared to the number of my mother into her youth. Considering she grew up during the depression and the family was still poor in the following years, I was surprised.

When I mentioned it to my husband, he said the same thing with his family.

All these photos would have been taken with an old box camera. Maybe photo developing became more expensive in the 50s. I remember my mother being concerned about the cost of it and flash bulbs. That started to change in the 70s.

Do you have large numbers of photos of your younger years?

Nope... probably 3....

If you mean under the age of 10 or 12 .. probably under a dozen.
Fewer in the teen years.

I don't have any photos of me when I was young.
Cameras weren't invented until 1888.

I probably have about 10 with many of the starting to fade.

I was the fourth kid out of four.

My parents were over all of the cute photos, hair clippings, baby books, etc... by the time I came along.

Minnie used to give me baths, take me to school, to the movies and to the toy store. My biological Mom was too busy as a socialite. I heard all the black gospel, her impressions of racism and loved my brother and me a lot. Her biological son became a Major in the US air force.

I was the first child/grandchild, so they took pictures just about every time I took a breath.

With my younger sisters, there were fewer and fewer photos as they moved down the line.

The joke was that no pictures of my youngest sister as a baby or child because my mom was planning to finish the roll of film at her college graduation......

My mom loved to take pictures, and I'm glad she did.
