When I first saw only this new thread Title, this morning,
I planned to ask, in my post here;
What actual quantity is a dollop?
And,
When someone says they'd like a dollop of butter on their baked potato, or a dollop of ice cream on their fruit pie,
Perhaps the person serving, should ask: Would you like a small, medium, large, or extra-large dollop?
I guess this quandary is bigger than me, from reading your actual full post on its definition!

The American Heritage Dictionary has 2 different definitions
1. A large lump or portion....as of ice cream
2. A small quantity or splash of liquid..as of whiskey.
