This actually happened to me. I expected to wake up after the appendectomy with a small bandage in my lower right quadrant. I woke up with a 12 inch scar up my middle. They could not find my appendix. Turned out it was on my upper left side instead of my lower right side."Whereabouts is his appendix, anyway?"

About 3 years ago I was laying on the Table at the Doctors office for a Day Surgery/Procedure - waiting to have a Prostate Needle Biopsy done. ms gamboolgal was with me.
This was first time for Needle Biopsy - so I was abit scared.
I'm laying there thinking calm thoughts, deep breathing, etc.
In the room right next to us - there is very loud noise like something fell and hit the floor hard - and a man started out with a very low guttural moan that built into a blood curdling scream !
Then I heard thru the walls a Nurse say - "It's OK to Scream"
Being calm and collected left the building for me at that point - ha !
I will say that the Needle Biopsy was not bad and I would advise any man needing one to get it done.
And the results came back negative.
No they finally found itWhat did they do- take out your gall bladder instead?![]()
Since where I lived, patients did not have to undergo treatment by residents, but no one told them that. When I had surgery, the consent form included my handwritten command: No residents or medical students may actively participate in my surgery. IOW, they could watch and learn, but not learn on me.A few years back my daughter had a unique surgery at a teaching hospital
when we checked in were put in pre-op.
this person is full on cycling gear and helmet popped in room said are we ready where is the chart...told him i am patients mom not nurse and who was he? he mumbled something then he marked the area of surgery as they do ... left
soon a very professional guy comes in checked where was marked.
HE told me as this was special surgery........... the third year residents had a contest to who could scrub in and bike boy won....
but it was obvious the second guy thought other was an idiot.
Only the assistant ..........but if the lead doctor was not chief of surgery ........i would have reconsidered
I think people could request that but as this was a big teaching moment had double OR so they had big gallery over head and one OR was a whole biology class doing studies as this was a very very rare tumor.Since where I lived, patients did not have to undergo treatment by residents, but no one told them that. My son had an operation and on the consent form, the medical staff had put the wrong organ down. My husband signed it without reading it or without knowing which organ it was. Luckily, I read it to make sure it was correct and they made the change just in time.
I've had many catheters removed after surgery. I've never had one hurt enough to scream. Just felt funny. The nurse said there is two small tubes up the side of the catheter. One is to blow up the balloon that holds it in place in the bladder. The other is for me to push this numbing/lubricating medicine in so when I pull this catheter out it won't hurt. It might burn a little the first time you pee. That scream you heard was the nurse pulling the catheter out from some guy's urethra post surgery.
Don't ask me how I know.

She would not let me leave till I peed a little in the commode just to make sure I could before I left the hospital or Dr's office.
