What's with the big false eyelashes?

Seems that everywhere I go these days I see young women with big false eyelashes. I can go to the grocery store or a fast food restaurant and see a young lady behind the counter wearing a mask and absurd lashes. Is this due to the fact that they look good on social media and these ladies don't realize they look absurd in real life?

I never got into fake eyelashes or nails. Can't see gluing anything on my body that feels foreign to me. I can see some people on TV or in the movies wearing them, but not for everyday life. Of course that's just me, a personal preference. Mascara had been the limit for me on my lashes, and used it for years since I was a teen, now I haven't put on any for years.

Giant fake eyelashes, giant hoop earrings, body covered in tattoos, pierced noses, eyebrows, and lips... I don't get it. It seems vain to be that concerned with your appearance.

They look so ridiculous. Why don't they realize that?! A friend of mine had sent me a picture of a woman who's eyelashes were compared to a moose's antlers. I posted it in one of the threads here but forgot which one. Here's another funny meme:

I went to a wedding reception recently where the bride and bridesmaid were both professionally made up, including false eyelashes. The wedding photos will look very good.

However, the mother of the bride was also elaborately made up, It was a stinking hot night and she began to feel quite ill. Suffering from heat stress while dressed in a tight dress and wearing false eye lashes is not recommended.

...also what makes me laugh is the overdone fake tan... the young often overdo it so much they look like a bright orange Belisha Beacon glowing at us from the checkout

I think they are going overboard on the eye makeup to compensate for having to wear a mask. They think, well, they can't see my face so I'm going to make sure my eyes stand out!
