OMG..wasn't there a fire in a Tenement block just a few days ago...?
I know only too well, my ex became a London Firefighter after he left the Royal Navy, until he retired ... I could tell you stories that would curl your hair.. there's many things the average joe don't know the horrors (aside from actual fires and burned souls) that firefighters have to deal with...Yes. NYC firefighters are among the bravest smoke eaters known to modern man . May The Good Lord bless and keep them safe.

he's my ex, but yes I'm still proud of all his achievements in saving lives...and putting his and his crews' life in serious danger every day of their livesI hear you. In my short stint with the original premerger NYC-EMS before getting hired on Penn-Central I've been witness to things that I still can't believe and I was born and raised in NYC. I bet you were and still are proud of him.
This seems to be a really bad year for New York fires. I wonder if some of the older buildings have reached a dangerous state the way some of the Miami buildings are starting to collapse. Then the cold weather brings out dangerous ways of heating apartments like space heaters, too.
These older neighborhoods have so much history and character, but if they've become fire traps something will have to be done.
