For Those of You Who Got Snow--How Much Did You Get?

We got lucky during this last storm. We had some freezing rain, and an inch of snow. Just a few miles north, folks got quite a bit more. Today, the temperature reached the low 50's, so it's all gone.

It's been 7 or 8 years since we had a major snow that kept us housebound for more than a day or two....I hope that trend continues.

Wow, that's a lot of snow! I hope you stay warm through all of this!
 
In December we got a couple of feet of snow. In January it warmed up and we then had slush, sure mucked up the car. While it was slushy the temperature dropped like a rock and that slush froze. We have a clean car but the ride is sure rough now.

The snow shovels were out today, removing excess snow from the lanes they missed. They are going to be trucking some of it out, as there is nowhere to put it. They've got it piled so high, it's hard for people to see well enough to make turns, and they haven't done the sidewalks or where people have to catch buses. Speaking of buses, there were something like 500 that were out of commission. When we were out, we saw 3 that were waiting to be towed. Still, they have taken care of it, quite quickly.

I got less than 5” of snow out of my last storm, but it was icy. This meant that my snow blower couldn’t handle it, nor could the typical wimpy plastic snow shovels that are largely sold today. Fortunately I had one old metal shovel that was up to the job of removal, which meant first piercing the surface crust to get to the ground. As usual, the snow plows left compacted hard snow and ice boulders obstructing the mouth of my driveway… ❄️ 😫
 
I feel sorry for the people of Toronto who received quite a bit! I lived there for over 20 years and will never will forget the year the mayor called in the National Guard as we had received so much in a week. Since I moved down to North Carolina about 10 years ago, I officially retired from snow.
Last Fall, we were predicted down here a warmer winter and lack of snow. Then last Sunday, we received about 3 inches. When that happens, everything is shut down for a couple days for the snow to melt faster than the equipment can come and clear it. A few days before, the shelves are empty as if people think they will be stranded in their homes for a week.

I wish them the best of luck cleaning all that snow up. I have seen similar snow piles here. One on the driveway to the garage here. I tried to turn quickly into the driveway between the tall snow piles. I made it ok but think I was lucky to get in there.
 
We are in Northern New Jersey and we haven't had much snow at all. A couple of days ago we had about 4 inches. This week it is suppose to warm up a bit.
I don't mind snow or the cold but hate ice.
