From Thursday January 27, wearing a face covering in indoor settings such as shops and supermarkets will not be compulsory.
GOV.UK stated: "Face coverings are no longer required by law in any setting."
Thanks to the accessibility of rapid lateral flow tests and the success of the vaccination rollout, the Government is able to take steps back to normalcy.

However, the Government urged the people of England to proceed with caution.
"Public health guidance will remain in place, suggesting individuals should continue to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces, where you may come into contact with people you do not normally meet."

Many individuals and businesses will opt to wear and promote wearing masks, and this is at their discretion.

You are supposed to still wear a mask on London Public Transport,
though I saw several people travelling on the Tram on Monday with
no mask.

I didn't say anything as they are liable to get aggressive.

Mike.

..yes but the no mask mandate doesn't come into force until tomorrow.....anyway I wouldn't confront anyone who wasn;t wearing a mask, as long as I was wearing one.. . I'm going to be travelling on the train and the tube sometime in the next week or so, which will be the first time since the pandemic began.,

Being indoors is more of a breeding ground for the virus than being outside. A new variant has emerged once again, and this will continue until there is world wide vaccination. :(

Interesting information. I read yesterday on a Canadian news site that there is no mention of this on any Canadian news site. Therefore, the writer concluded, rightly I think, that Canada's news sites are tightly controlled. This is what happens when you get rid of all the smaller newspapers and the bigger ones just keep merging. Tight discipline for all Canadians! Our government is watching!

I have decided to go on the BBC news site to get a more diverse and a more rounded view of what is going on in the world. There is real danger in just watching one news site. For example, take the present situation in Eastern Ukrainian. Looking at the news from Russia, the Ukraine, BBC and Fox News from USA will bring different perspectives for the same situation. All news can be pretty subjective; according to who is presenting it.

The quoted bolded text above is why U.K. society can start getting back to normal.

Due to the success of the booster programme, with over 30.5 million boosters given in England, the situation continues to improve.
The latest data from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) shows that getting a booster is 89% effective in preventing hospitalisation from COVID-19 from 2 weeks after it is administered and is 65 to 75% effective against symptomatic infection from Omicron.
Vaccinations remain our best defence against COVID-19 and in December the Prime Minister launched a national appeal to Get Boosted Now. The government met its target of offering every eligible adult a booster jab by Christmas and now more than 4 in 5 (81%) of eligible adults in England have had their booster.
Over 90% of people aged 12 and above have had their first dose and over 83% have had their second. The government recently provided an extra £22.5 million to councils for Community Vaccine Champions to help drive uptake in harder-to-reach communities.

If more people in the U.S. would get vaccinated, we could start getting back to normal as well. But that's a bit too much to ask of the people here. Hell, we can't even build high-speed rail here. We're pathetic! :poop:

I think I might need a drink this evening. It's going to snow tomorrow, and the roads are all icy, so why the hell not? Actually, I think I'll have several drinks. :)
