Thanks Hollydolly. Woke this morning to a power cut, but it has just been restored after 2 1/2 hours. No apparent damage here but I'll have a check round after breakfast. Still no mobile signal in the area. It took them 4 days to get it back after the first storm.
thank goodness, you've not been adversely affected...

The UK has been beset by some really fierce storms this season.
This area holds the record for highest official UK wind speed at sea level of 142 mph, but the highest recorded gust was on the summit of Cairngorm of 174 mph - before the measuring equipment was blown away ! We're used to having strong winds here, but not so many storms close together. At least the east coast is relatively dry.

I hear about all this on the news and hope that nobody is dead,
being in the South East of the country, I think that the proximity
of Mainland Europe, must somehow be protecting us, we don't
get very much real/extreme weather here, only hot or cold and
wet or dry, sometimes a little extra wind.

yes we're very lucky in this part of England Mike as you say... sometimes when it crosses my mind to want to move back to Scotland, or even up to the North of England, it's this type of weather which reminds me how we have the most temperate weather in the Uk right here in the South and East Anglian regions..

Hollydolly, do you remember the 'Hurricane' of 1987? In the Hampshire village where I lived, houses like ours that sat North-South we largely OK, while houses that were East-west tended to suffer roof damage.

In some ways, I miss England, but there are advantages to living in rural Scotland. Clean air, dark skies, great food and more distilleries than you could shake a stick at. And virtually every town has a golf course.
