“Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments,” reads a statement attributed to Kim Godwin, president at ABC News. “While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”

Oh my, they suspend or fire people all the time for just maybe not understanding the impact of what they said. I don't know what this doggone world is coming to when you cannot speak your mind without being afraid someone is going to take your job. Stop this planet--I want off!

I watched this segment and I actually agreed with her that the Holocaust was less about race and more about "man's inhumanity to man". Then I learned, just like she did, that the Jews were considered an inferior race to the Nazis. I never knew that. That is my ignorance, as it is hers. She apologized. Seems like Cancel Culture to suspend her for two weeks. Now we get Joy Behar hosting for two weeks? God forbid.

Her real name is Caryn Elaine Johnson. She thought it would be cute to change her surname to one that's Jewish (Goldberg) and she claims that she is Jewish even though she has no Jewish blood or lineage, nor has she done any work to convert to Judaism.

I've never watched The View and don't care one way or the other, but evidently, some people do.

As far as the Nazis considering the Jews to be inferior, I don't think that's the case. Just the opposite. They hated that Jews were so successful. Jews were the bankers and professors and business owners, which made the Nazis feel inferior. THAT is why the Nazis wanted to eliminate them.

But didn't we learn what the actual races are in high school? No one ever called Jewish people a race. It's just what I was taught. They have been known as an ethnicity just like many are. I am Slovak but that's not a "race". It's an ethnic group. I don't know, now I'm confused 🤔.

Until I did a bit of research, I was willing to think she just misspoke.
But after knowing that she supported Mel Gibson after his antisemitic tirade & she also supported Bill Cosby..........

Yes, you're quite right. Hitler thought that the Jews intended to take over the world, and, as that was HIS intention, the best thing to do was simply get rid of them all.
All through history, people have been persecuted because of their race or their religion so, if black people think they are the only ones who have been the victims of prejudice, they need educating!

I saw it too and felt the same way but I then remembered the way the Jews were considered. My first thought about race is usually about color but I remember now about how it was. I think they were wrong about how they handled it. I see everyday what is said and nobody apologizes and nothing is done. She has always taken responsibility for what she says and makes it right.

It was just a normal thing to disparage the ethnicities and races for many of us. I know some of my relatives did but I did not much. Until we learned the true suffering the people of different races and ethnicities have gone through it became apparent that many or most of us have suffered as a result of our ethnic origins, race, gender, sexuality and identity. We all have needed to try to understand the pain of it all and the consequences of it all.

Please post a link showing she claimed to be Jewish. I researched and that never has been said. She did say her family was made up of all kinds of people. We all have different kinds of people in our distant families. Did not see either that she thought it would be cute to have a Jewish name. She is one of the most talented people having an Oscar, Tony, Emmy and a Grammy award.

IMO it would be better to discuss and understand Whoppi's comments than to publicly shame or punish her for having a different point of view.

IMO it's another example of the difficulty involved in having an honest discussion concerning feelings about race in America.

Why on earth would anybody put themselves out there?

Yes, I wish more people would wake up to that fact. The slave trade is abhorrent, I'm not denying that....but many races (including the ancient Brits) have been taken from their homeland and used as slaves.
Christians were persecuted, not only by non-Christians but by the Catholic church! Anyone who didn't accept their teaching was liable to be executed.
We all have ancestors who were persecuted for one reason or another.

Yeah, key word being 'ancestors'. Black slavery in the U.S. is Modern History. When I was a young girl, there were living Black people here who once were slaves. So, it's in many people's RECENT memory. Not the same thing, whites should stop their whining over something a thousand years old.

That is along the line I was thinkng. I do not of course agree at all with her ....... hell I don't even like her but .......... what the hell happened to freedom of speech ??

But the holocaust IS about man’s inhumanity to man! And yes, it’s also about race, and abhorrent cruelty, and megalomania and narcissism and a whole host of things, and to dismiss the complex nature of that time in our history by trying to pigeon-hole it into one thing is to minimize or lessen its wretched, heinous nature.

Interesting, I didn't know that.

Hard to say if she just misspoke or meant anything by it. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt.

I think we give stars too much credibility and attention when it comes to things like this. They are no smarter on these subjects than the rest of us.

If you remember the movie' The Color Purple' '85, directed by Stephen Speilberg was nominated for 11 Academy Awards didn't win The cast which inc Whoopi said at the time it was 'racially motivated' it didn't win any awards

I am not a fan of this show.
I found many times over the years her comments covering many subjects ( race being prominent) to be unsettling so...... just switched her off.
Time to let it go...people are still learning we are all the same..... human beings!

Liked her in movie roles.

I've never watched The View, but if it's like any other talk show, I suppose virtually all the participants have said things they later regretted. I think the Jewish concentration camp atrocities have been well documented, and I can't imagine anyone downplaying those events. When I was in Europe, I visited the camp at Buchenwald, and it was pretty obvious that the Jews went through Hell at those places.
