Whoopi Goldberg Suspended From ‘The View’ for Holocaust Remarks

If you remember the movie' The Color Purple' '85, directed by Stephen Speilberg was nominated for 11 Academy Awards didn't win The cast which inc Whoopi said at the time it was 'racially motivated' it didn't win any awards
Did you see her in “ Clara’s heart “ ….she won 10 oscars …..

Woopi is now threatening to quit the View. I never watched that show as I dislike all of them.
I don't like or watch it either, but here's a link. I don't see what the stink is about. I may be missing something, but I'm not sure I disagree with Whoopi. The Holocaust was not about race. Here's a link ...

BTW, I have a little antisemitism story. Years ago I was sitting in a bar waiting to meet a girl after work. A guy a few stools down starts ranting at the bar tender about his Jewish boss. He goes on and on, his boss Rosenberg does this and that, blah, blah, blah. The bartender listens silently, and finally says -- My name is Rosenberg. (-8

I also have an eye-opening antisemitism story:
I worked for a big firearms retailer for several years - sales, instruction, trade shows, etc. The owner had 3 large retail stores and a distributorship; very successful. He also happened to be Jewish.
Since I have extensive experience & knowledge in that field, a new employee clung on to me because he had a great desire to learn; he followed me everywhere - in the store and at the shooting range during instruction. I didn't mind; I encouraged him. He obviously wanted to be my friend, as well. I'm rather picky about friends & he seemed like a nice guy.
He wanted to try out several firearms I had & we arranged a shooting trip in the desert. Since he was driving - supplying the gas expense, I supplied the ammo - which was much more expensive than the gas, but OK with me.

During the drive back to his house, we chatted about our boss - the owner & how financially successful he was.
My friend said, "He's Jewish, isn't he?"
I said, "Yes, he is."
My friend said, "Aw, man, I hate f---in' Jews."
I was shocked that I thought I knew him & he didn't seem capable of such stupidity. Amazing how one remark can tell you everything about someone.
I was speechless until we got back to his house, where my car was.
As I got in my car, I said, "Before you make a fool out of yourself - like you just did - make sure the person you've been friends with & who has been nice to you isn't Jewish."
All the color drained out of his face. I've never seen anyone look so embarrassed & ashamed.
And working with him over the next few months until he left was really weird; he kept kissing up to me. I told him, "I hope you learned something about hatred." "He said, "Boy, did I ever."

I have worse stories. i.e. the time an entire Greyhound busload of people on a tour of the western states turned on me, mom, dad, sister screaming DAMN JEWS.

Or, the time in Switzerland when a drunk stood up, pointed at me, and in German yelled JUDEN.

I have several more, those were the highlights that came to mind. You were lucky @win231!

Or the time 2 Goyim wanted to see the horns on my head, which of course I keep covered with my hair do.

I have more...........................

Other than that learning experience, I only experienced 2 other similar (verbal) incidents.
In High School - 8th grade, a student asked me, "Are you Jewish?" I said, "Yes." He said, "I can tell." I said, "Thank you." That made him really mad because he didn't mean it as a compliment. :giggle:
Also in High School, during driver training class, a student said to me, "Hey, nose, I'm gonna bust it." I said, "Well you better get started; it might take you awhile."
Since these were kids around 17, I think they learned it from their racist parents.

I also get a kick out of people who think they can tell who's Jewish & who isn't. When I meet someone like that, I always ask them, "What am I?"
They always say, "You're definitely not Jewish." I think many people are like that about many topics; they want to appear really sharp & observant.
What does a Jewish person "look like?"

I remember hearing all sorts of antisemitic jokes as a kid growing up in NY, even from my "friends." In Texas people would say that I wasn't like most Jews, as if they were complementing me — that being Jewish was a bad thing. I had no idea what they were talking about, nor did I ask since at that time in my life, I didn't know much about the Jewish religion or heritage.

Obviously they thought most Jews were bad in some way and they used the word Jew as a pejorative. It wasn't my fault that I came from a screwed up family that wasn't conducive to me being successful. I was just a mechanic at the time, and the people I hung around with were all blue collar workers — not that there's anything wrong with blue collar work, but there's just not much money in it. I guess if they knew me now, they wouldn't say that I "wasn't like most Jews." :ROFLMAO:

Jews experience antisemitism from both sides. From the left it comes under the guise of being anti-apartheid, which is how they describe their contempt for the Israel-Palestinian problem. They support the "oppressed" Palestinians, who are primarily religious conservatives, and appose Israel, which is a liberal state. They often lie about the conflict, which almost always is the result of not having facts on one's side. That's what makes me think it's more disguised antisemitism than actual concern for the Palestinians.

Did not know what the View was until recently. I dislike watching a bunch of women (or men) sitting around a table "chatting".

However, Whoopi is a fine actress, a little over the top sometimes, but honest and I believe she meant no harm. Her employers had to do something to appease.
I have Jewish relatives, and you would never know they are Jewish, they do not fit any of the sterotypes. Blond hair, blue eyed etc.

Cousin!

Gosh at the experiences. :( :mad:We have more Jews in the area in which I grew up being close to the Mississippi Delta than most other small towns in the state. I never thought anything about it. Most owned prosperous businesses and socialized accordingly. Two of the most popular girls at my school had soft Jewish features and were cheerleaders, elected to beauty review. They "went to church" in Cleveland MS rather than locally (no synagogue in town) and no one thought anything about it.

I quit watching the View when they started inviting guests and then ganging up on them not letting them finish a sentence. Long before that I had quit liking Whoopie because she defended Roman Polanski (director who raped thirteen year-old girls.) She thought he and all "artists," like herself, should only be judged on their work.

This fits my perception of her from reading about her Holocaust remarks and subsequent attempts at apology, justification over the last few days. Seems to have a narcissistic view of things, very Hollywood.

I watch The View and my partner would rather slit his throat than watch it. We were talking about it today. I thought that Whoopi was just ignorant on the topic. He completely disagreed. He is Filipino and he totally understood the whole "race" vs. "man's inhumanity to man" aspect. It definitely goes beyond skin tone. I got schooled.

Yes, I wish more people would wake up to that fact. The slave trade is abhorrent, I'm not denying that....but many races (including the ancient Brits) have been taken from their homeland and used as slaves.
Christians were persecuted, not only by non-Christians but by the Catholic church! Anyone who didn't accept their teaching was liable to be executed.
We all have ancestors who were persecuted for one reason or another.
My ancestors were hanged

im coming with you Ruth ….lol…
I could not agree more..back when, if a politician were to be fired for telling it the way they believed it to be,our country would be as it is today..bunch of scared to tell the masses the way it is rather than sugar coat.

Details! please
This is slightly off the subject, but thousands of Irish people died over the years, as a result of English suppression.

Oh, Paddy dear and did you hear the news that's goin' round?
The shamrock is by law forbid to grow on Irish ground
Saint Patrick's Day no more we'll keep his colours can't be seen
For they're hangin' men and women for the wearin' of the green
