The mayor of Hudson, Ohio, presented a bizarre argument against permitting ice fishing at a local park — he said it will lead to prostitution.
In a viral video clip, Craig Shubert told city council members that if the winter pastime were allowed at Hudson Springs Park, an entirely different type of pastime would naturally follow.
“If you open this up to ice fishing, while on the surface it sounds good, then what happens next year? Does someone come back and say, ‘I want an ice shanty for X-amount of time?’” he asked in the clip, referring to the use of portable shelters for ice fishing.
“And if you then allow ice fishing with shanties, then that leads to another problem — prostitution,” he continued. “And now you’ve got the police chief and the police department involved. Just data points to consider.”

Where I lived in Wisconsin, prostitutes came from other states to do business with the guys during Hunting season. This is an absolute fact, as I knew one of them. In her non work time she was a wife and mother and had a regular job, part time if I remember. Of course, she was part time in her hunting duties as well.

The oldest profession is pretty much everywhere. I live in a town of less than a thousand people and there are ones that turn up at the local motels, not just hunting season but when there's work crews in town.

Whatever you do to try and eliminate it the best you can hope for is to minimize auxiliary problems like robbery (johns the victims) or violence (prostitutes the usual victims). I've long thought Nevada was on to something in their legalization and regulation of it.

Well, if we follow Chief Craig Shubert's logic, we'll have to remove every back seat in cars. And who knows what goes on in those Catholic confessionals.
But on the other hand, it's -9 degrees, and you're freezing your butt off. I don't know too many guys, who would risk losing another part.

i would agree those are some hardy guys able to work in those conditions.
